Applicants for the positions in the Repertory Company will be interviewed individually. They will be asked to perform a prepared audition piece of their own choosing, and sight-read and perform a monologue chosen by the in-house director.

Applicants for positions in the Ballet Company will be invited back to audition with the ballet directors. There will be set pieces, as well as a solo and group audition.

((OOC Note - The Shanachie Theater Companies and House Band are intended to be a platform for players to expand their horizons among the community. Applications can be considered to be successful if made. Regular play, in forums and/or live, would be very much appreciated where time permits. Players' names will be attached to the pertinent productions in varying roles, unless they specifically state otherwise. Please note, if you are currently on the Roll Call of the Shanachie's Companies, you will need to add your details to this thread, or contact me directly via PM, to keep that place in the Shanachie line up. In light of the last couple of years experience at this, we are also adding that should your character join the Shanachie and then do absolutely nothing - play in the rooms, post on the boards, etc - for an extended period of time, we will remove your character from the Roll Call.))

((Cross-posting this for Arandir & Carina from DM.))

For this year's audition, Aran and Carina had decided to do something a little different, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. They were already both members of the theater company, after all, so auditioning was merely a formality.

It had been Carina's idea, knowing how nervous Aran always got at auditions; and so, the couple had chosen to perform the most romantic duet they could think of - "Tonight" from West Side Story. It wasn't hard pretending to be a young couple in love, since they had been married for a few years now, and it was the Shanachie Theater they had to credit for their meeting.

None in Rhydin. Misdemeanor criminal mischief when I was a youngin, nothing major, no felonies.
For his audition, Asher performed an original composition played on Spanish guitar and accompanied by a short song he had written many years prior titled "The Changeling", an emotional piece that showcased his vocal range. When that was out of the way, he performed a medley of songs and dialogue from the Broadway musical Avenue Q to highlight his comedic chops, starting with "It Sucks to be Me", leading into "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist", and ending with Asher on the piano for a vibrant belting of "I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today" complete with someone in the crowd calling out Christmas Eve's line of "Get a job!"

Maggie sang "Flashlight", from "Pitch Perfect 2."
The message from Katniss Everdeen after the destruction of a hospital was Maggie's choice of monologue. She had been through the Blackest Night in Old Market and used the memory of that event to bring forth the emotion in the original speech. Maggie wore her own black leather armor that bore the crest of her grandmother's troops, a rearing unicorn against a sunrise.

Josette was all smiles and eager excitement as she warmed up for the auditions for a new season. It was always wonderful to see familiar faces as well as new ones! Her chosen audition pieces were both from Don Quixote, each challenging in their own way, but she was really feeling Kitri’s spirit and fire!

The vermilion fan she held had a language all its own in the dancer’s capable hand and the petite french fille flirted it up to perfection. Her feet barely made a sound as they touched the ground—the girl practically floated her way through her first variation. The crème de la crème coming in her big finish with a flourish of fouettés that left her breathless, but beaming with relief and a look of pure joy that there was not a single tremor to be seen within her lithe frame!

Dante Lorenzo Domínguez-Álvarez reread the updated application which included his stellar performances at the Shanachie Ballet Company. An amused smirk surfaced when he contemplated the past year of his life. London, Paris, Moscow…all rejected in favor of Rhydin. The Black Eagle proved he could perform anywhere and had wowed many an audience after Josette mentioned the ballet company to him. It was here that he continued to share such otherworldly talents with like minded souls. That he desired a continued placement within the company spoke to the gifted ballerino’s respect for the Company and those who operated it.

“Deberías estar agradecido, Dante.” Cesare, Dante’s lover and talented choreographer in his own right, chided the man when he saw that smirk and knew the thoughts behind it. Cesare then taking his eyes off Dante to give another look around the theater in a bit of awe.

“Lo soy, Príncipe.” Dante answered as he handed over the application for a final reading from a trusted source. “Agradecido por todo esto, pero lo más importante, para usted.” Cesare had all the things Dante had been missing in life…the man’s impact on El águila negra significant enough that even that mighty ego was somewhat subdued. Somewhat. He would find his center within Cesare’s orbit, the pair of them off stage as Josette performs her own audition.

“I adore her. She’s a delight to dance with. You could learn some humility from her, Dante.” Cesare teased while the pair watched Josette.

Cesare’s words elicited a chuff of breath from Dante as he stretched, but ultimately, grudgingly agreed. “Perhaps she has a Spanish flair for passion wrapped within her French skin.” Dante speaking while watching Josette flirt with that little pericón as if imbued with the slightest flavor of Andalusian Flamenco. “El águila negra approves. We should celebrate after this…but first, you shall watch me dance.” Dante Lorenzo Domínguez-Álvarez always bringing it back to him.

Dante would be auditioning first with a solo performance. He had chosen a variation from Don Quixote to showcase his unparalleled leaping and gravity defying ability to seemingly pause at the apex of his jumps.

Theatre Company Audition
Tippletoe soared through the group warm ups, excelled in the dance and acting interviews (her singing only average this round on account of too much cheering at the Arena). Her pre-prepared song was Don't Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl and the pre-prepared scene was as Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast preparing the meal for Belle.

Repertory Company
The gnome was a little less scattered in this years interview and prepared “I sighted a herd near Penguin’s Creek” as Lady Mary from ‘The Admirable Crichton’.

For as long as he could remember, all Rob had ever wanted to do was become an actor. He was just as fond of horses as his father, but his dreams for the future had always involved a stage, not a stable.

As such, he'd been enrolled in the STARS program for a few years now and was starting his first year at the Rosita De Luca School of Performing Arts, with the hope of making acting a career. He'd had a few minor roles in the Repertory Company in the past, due to his connection with STARS, but now that he was sixteen, his parents and teachers had encouraged him to audition officially as a guest performer.

Though he was not from Rhy'Din or even Earth, Rob had discovered and subsequently become obsessed with the work of Shakespeare, and for his prepared piece, had chosen "Mercutio's Monologue", finding that part far more interesting than that of the lovesick Romeo.

For his second monologue, he was asked to sight read and perform "Charlie's Monologue" from The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Brand new, not only to the Shanachie, but to Rhy'Din itself, Briana gave up her application and focused on the audition with everything she had. Even if all she managed was to get a place in the corps, that would be enough to start with. She could work on advancing over time. But for now, she performed a variation from La Sylphide, and could only hope it was enough.

Though Dorian was currently on paternity leave due to the birth of his first child, he wasn't about to miss filing an application for the Shanachie. After all, he'd been a regular member of one company or the other since his arrival in Rhydin City a few years ago. He added a note that he was willing to arrange for an audition, but seeing as how he'd been with the theater for the last four years, he figured he'd already proven his worth. With that done, he sent it off to the theater via courier ...
