Hello! This post here is a part of a community storyline that the DoF staff is working on, and we would love for you to be a part of it.
How to Play Along?
The vision is taking place starting Thursday, September 12th. All community members are welcome to participate in having seen it. Ideally, current Opal Holders and the Diamond will likely see the clearest/most powerful version of this vision, but anyone is welcome to play/write that they experienced it on some level.
Does your character spend a lot of time in the Outback? They can see all/part of this vision or feel some sense of foreboding. Did your character hold an Opal 20 years ago? They can see all/part of this vision or feel some sense of foreboding. Does your character sometimes pass the Outback on the way to the grocery store? They can see all/part of this vision or feel some sense of foreboding. Whatever works!
This is something that you are welcome to write a post about, refer to in play, or completely ignore (though it’d be more fun if you played along in some way). If you are going to write a post, please post or cross-post it to The Metamorphism thread no later than Sunday, September 29th. After that, you are still free to write and post it elsewhere, but we will be moving the thread along at that time!
What Not to Do?
Don’t try to insta-solve the scenario! I mean, we haven’t even told you what’s going to happen anyway :) But we’d appreciate everyone showing some restraint and not knowing #allthethings and fixing anything. If you’d like to do something but aren’t sure if it’s crossing a line, ask! Anyone in the DoF Staff would be happy to discuss how we can make your ideas work. We want everyone to play along and do so creatively!

Notice: In the middle of the upcoming DQ 99, the Opals will be attempting to interact with each other. The DoF staff present will alert players to the timing of this ICly (likely during Round 2). Lights will flicker, there will be a spike in elemental energy, and the Opals’ specific powers may manifest at random. It will be a brief, failed attempt for the Opals to accomplish something before the tournament continues. Everyone is welcome to play into this event or not.)

Tonight, Diamond Quest 100 is taking place. Although already momentous in its own right as it marks 25 years of Diamond Quests, the DQ will also be historic when something remarkable happens to the Opals in accord with the visions many people experienced over the last few months.
This event will take place at the very end of the Diamond Quest around the time when the winner is announced. While the DoF staff recognizes that this may be quite late in the evening (or early in the morning), we hope people stick around to play into this event! There will also be an option/opportunity to vapor the fact that your character was there and playables in the coming days and weeks so everyone can join in on the fun.
While we are letting everyone know now that something will be happening to the Opals, we ask that no characters know this going into the DQ. If you want, you can certainly have your characters have a sense of apprehension or unease and feel drawn to the event, we just ask that no one no for sure that something bad will happen to the Opals.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any DoF Staff member.

How to Play Along with the Opals Shattering
On Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Diamond Quest 100, the Opals shattered their physical form and were set free. This has had a lot of repercussions that we are still exploring IC and that the community is welcome to explore as well. Over the coming weeks, the search for Opal shards (more information coming on that next week!) will take place with the eventual end-goal of reunification, but until that time, there is trouble in RhyDin to enjoy!
We have tried to make this SL as open as possible so that everyone can play along (or not play along) in any way that they wish, but we hope that everyone can join the SL in their own way.
What Can I Do?
The Opals are still in play in a lot of ways. We’ve already seen characters disappear or go comatose as a result of their shattering as well as elemental trouble, but what else can you do to play into this?
You can have your character interact with the essence of the Opals still. Just because they are no longer confined within their physical form does not mean your character still can’t interact/talk with the Opals like they used to. Or maybe the Opals aren’t responding to your character at the moment. This is completely up to the players!
You can have your character run into elemental trouble of some kind as a result of the Opals being free. The Opals correspond to the different elements: water/ice (Ice Dancer); earth (PathFinder); fire (FireStar); air (MoonBeryl); and spirit (ShadoWeaver). All of these elements are out of alignment now that the Opals are running fun and fancy free in RhyDin.
You can have your character go about business as usual as if nothing is wrong.
What Can’t I Do?
While this SL is open, we are asking our fellow players not to do one thing: Please do not solve the issues that the SL has brought about for everyone. Feel free to solve it and/or ignore it for your characters, but do not fix the global problem for the whole community. By doing so, you are limiting the opportunities of others to play along in this SL.
The Opals are shattered and they will remain shattered for the time being. Do not have your character gather up all the shards (there’s going to be a cool game to go along with that). Do not have your character magically know what happened to cause this. Do not have your character magically know how to fix them. This is a process we’d like to go through as a community together and the event will be resolved in due time.
Final Comments
We would really like for everyone to have fun with this and use it as a means to further their own character or just have a good time. The ideas mentioned in this post are just that: ideas. The Search for the Opal Shards OOC Guide
Welcome to the Search for Opal Shards!
There are two main ways to “find” Opal shards.
1) Come out in fight in Duel of Fist fights! The bot will occasionally hand out shards after you win.
2) Write a story post of your character finding a shard at an elemental location or in another location where hand-to-hand fighting takes place (ex: Adam’s Dockside Bar & Fight Club).
Once your character has found an Opal shard using method #2, post the proof to this thread! The proof will be a link to the post you made searching for the shards (which can be posted to this thread or to any folder that fits). Duel of Fist staff members will tally up the shards dolled out by the bot from dueling on a weekly basis.
1 story post = maximum of 2 shards
Several shards found after a duel = 3 shards
Chunk = 4 shards
Multiple people can write story posts together! For example, maybe King’s Gambit goes out on an Opal Shard Search as a team. Each team member can retrieve a maximum amount of 2 shards for that post.
Opal shards will be counted/tracked in this Google Sheet, which will be updated once a week.
When you want to redeem your Opal shards for prizes, please post the request in the IC Search for Opal Shards thread. At that time, note how many shards you are redeeming and for which prizes and the DoF Staff will “give out” your prize before updating the prize list and Opal tracking sheet. People can also pool their Opal shards to redeem a prize.

We're also double checking the shard #s reflected in the Google sheet for accuracy as the data collection became a bit more cumbersome than initially anticipated.

There's less than 2 weeks left to collect shards (the last night will be Diamond Quest 101); remember, you can redeem prizes at any time. We encourage you to keep on dueling, collecting and choosing those awards!
