Challenge to Battlefield Park

Post by Amaris »

Amaris had finally selected her costume: a Veles. A wolf pelt shawl hung on her shoulders, with her own ears and tail out, but the rest of her form was her human appearance. She wore a white simple cotton tunic and a sword belt with a Gladius and carried a large yellow shield made of cardboard but painted to look like the real deal. The shield looked like yellow painted wood with a little three-D painting of a metal boss in the middle. The sword was made of foam, just because, and painted to look like a real Gladius. She also wore leather strap sandals that wrapped up to her upper part of her ankle. Amaris had been very preoccupied with the research behind the costume; she had been in the library even more than normal for her requirements to be squire (that Gloria had set for her). She'd been researching about a Roman dart and had found all kinds of information. With that knowledge, she went about making the pilum (the accurate name for the dart) out of foam, like her sword. Once her costume was together, she stopped by the arena and went to the cork, to place a piece of paper covered in stickers, then she rushed out to get to some Halloween festivities.

While I don't care what other parents do with their children, I'm not going to be fighting one. So I'll be retiring Battlefield Park and allowing the barons council to choose where this goes. Doing it sooner than later, also known as: not dragging it out like some people do, will at least ensure that a Baron who likes beating up children can be chosen in a timely manner. I'd suggest Mallory since she has some background with teaching and fighting children.

Ciao,
Andrea Anderson
Former Baron of Battlefield Park

(OOC: Good luck, Amaris! While Andrea might not like it, I'm going to be quietly cheering for you!)

As Amaris’ challenge was valid, but the Baron of Battlefield Park, Andrea Anderson has retired the barony, a decision as to who will represent and fight this challenge needs to be made.

The Barons Council has two choices in this matter.

1. Choose one of their own to act as the defender of the title and face Amaris. The Senior Baron has priority to defend should a decision be made for the council to defend the title themselves.
2. Choose an active (The active Warlord must not be listed as [NE]*) Warlord from the standings to act as the defender. Should this Warlord defend, they will become the newest Baron of Battlefield Park.
Barons/Warlords flagged [NE] have not dueled in 2+ months and, therefore, may not challenge.
The council of Barons:
Jewell Ravenlock, Baron of Seaside. -- Senior Baron
Alasdair Galloway, Baron of New Haven.
Gloria Blaze, Baron of Old Temple.
Mallory Maeda, Baron of Cadentia.
Gren Blockman, Baron of Dockside.
Ebon Ilnaren, Baron of Dragon's Gate.

Should the vote be a tie, the senior most Baron will act as the tiebreaker.

The Barons Council has 7 days, starting from post, to choose a champion to face Amaris. As the challenger has done no wrong in this situation, it will be on the obligation of the defender chosen by the council to reach out to Amaris to begin talks on a challenge date and time, the challenger must still provide the caller for the challenge. The challenge must be fought within 14 days beginning Saturday, November 2nd at 5:31 PM (ET) . The challenge may be fought before this date should a champion be chosen earlier.

Should a decision not be made in a timely manner the Duel of Swords staff will choose a suitable defender.

Please use this thread to discuss your vote or have a representative reply with a decision.
( Barons must reply with their acceptance should a representative replies with a decision. )

If this keeps up, we're going to have more vacant baronies than sitting Barons. I am in favor of once more selectng one of our own to defend the title. My suggestion would be Alasdair, as second-most senior Baron, since Jewell just stood in defense of Old Market. However, the only Baron I would not recommend is Gloria, simply because Amaris is, if I recall, her Squire and that seems a cruel match to me.

I’d be honored to face Amaris and support Andrea’s suggestion for settling this challenge. Ebon makes a good point about Jewell defending a vacancy twice in a row and I agree; however, while I am not opposed to Alasdair to defend the title, Amaris has already fought him in her first challenge, and I have history with the barony in question.

I will step in if elected, but since Mallory has volunteered I will cast my vote for her to defend on behalf of the council.

Agreed, since Mallory is willing and has the history with Battlefield Park that she mentioned.

I cast my vote for Mallory, the Baroness of Cadentia, to defend the title. While it would be an honor to represent the Barons Council once again and I would gladly do so, I would prefer not to face a young child if at all possible.

With a majority vote it has been decided that Mallory Maeda will act as the champion of the Battlefield Park title.

Mallory, you will be responsible for contacting Amaris to start talk of dates and times. Thank you to the Barons Council for responding quickly to the vote and good luck to both of the fighters in the upcoming challenge.

This challenge has until November 16th to be completed.

A Knight of the Wayward Court left two notes upon the Cork, this was one of them.

The Overbaker Michelle Montoya has returned. She will be officiating this match.

CONGRATULATIONS AMARIS ON HER FIRST TITLE! WE WELCOME THE NEW BARONESS OF BATTLEFIELD PARK!

Amaris vs. Mallory Maeda for Battlefield Park

Mallory got first blood, but Amaris gave as good as she got with a fair trade in the second round. After a brief pause, Mallory's skillful defense with her oar widened the lead. Young Amaris made a timely defense, but Mallory employed a talented maneuver of her own bring us to match point! In response, the talented young Amaris dissed the Baroness! Sometimes all you need is one bold move. Amaris took the momentum of dissing Mallory and turned it into a well placed attack followed by a simple, but effective, defense. Amaris fought her way back to take the lead in the tenth round. The pace accelerated as the two exchanged blows, taking the match beyond five points. Amaris quickly secured the title the next round with a well-timed defense. Congratulations Amaris!

Tacked under the challenge results:

Amaris,

Congratulation, sis! I'm proud of you!

I'm sorry that I wasn't there to cheer you on. Mama's mare gave birth to a black filly with four white socks and we were all on midwifing duty.

Love,

Maggie
