Tales and information about the barbaric lands of Llothgar

The Lands

Image

The lands of Llothgar are like many of the people who dwell within it: harsh, rough, and enduring.

The realm lies beyond the boundaries of most known worlds. To reach it is by way of a gateway that only handfuls of Llothgarians have ever travelled through.

Terrain is rocky in many of the northeastern areas along its craggy edges where the cruel waves of the Enbohk ocean lies. To the north is a are foothills where the climate it temperate to cold with thick snowfall and few villages exist. East lies gentler lands that yield more from the ground of crops and the forests are thick with trees and wildlife. More villages are located within this region. To the southern areas of Llothgar, beneath the sharp, cruel jags of mountains lies desert and the Bloodspear tribes. Few Llothgarians go there with the rumors that those kill intruders and feast on their flesh and blood.

A few islands dot the eastern coastline and little is known of the lands beyond the hills to the far north.

NOTE: Some of this will grow in detail as writing progresses

The Known Tribes

Each tribe has a region and every tribe has a bloodline that leads it. It is not unheard of for someone to think his own bloodline is better than that of the one leading and challenge the rights to it. If the leader is killed by the one challenging, then that person takes over the tribe - this has never been done by a woman.

Some few are nomadic (listed under Other), travelling from land to land within Llothgar. Any tribe can do war upon another and some raid or perform cues. But all meet up, once every five years in a meeting considered a truce of truces that lasts a week where trade and talks happen (Sometimes to make some friends amongst each other and others new enemies).

Northern Tribes
Name of Tribe: Hel'Murein (Hell'Moor-Ayne)
Leader: Mril Ut'Noren
Region: Mountainous, rocky where the treeline stops
Weather: Cool to cold most of the years, freezing w/ multiple feet of snow in the winter months
Clothing: Furs and leathers are worn throughout the year in heavy layers
Homes: Long-houses (Open-plan houses made of wood with no partitions or true rooms. Firepites are permanently dug into the ground at the center of each and entire families are known to share them)
Trade Worth: Furs, leather, meat, gems (jewels) and metal ore (for weapons) dug out of the mountains, and weapons
Traditions/Ways: It is common to have more than one wife. Death ? bodies are buried.

Southern Tribes
Name of Tribe: Kuhe'Ohvai (Koo'Aw-Vay) (Also known as the Warspears)
Leader: Unknown
Region: Desert with water buried deep in caverns miles beneath the ground with hills and flat terrain
Weather: Less than an inch of rain a year. Arid, hot with temperatures at dangerous 100+ Degrees (F) in the winter during the day and -10 in some areas of the desert in the middle of the summer months at night
Clothing: Unknown
Homes: Unknown
Traditions/Ways: Much that is known about the Warspears is speculation and rumor. Even hardened warriors go into the deserts of the Kuhe'Ohvai

Eastern Tribes
Name of Tribe: Bal'triv (Ball-Triv)
Leader: Durg Shur'Nok
Region: Coves and inlets with sand one the beaches and grassy, hilly terrain
Weather: Temperate weather normally, but into Fall months are storms and gales
Clothing: Light leathers, cotton and flax used for clothing most of the year
Homes: Stone-brick homes made in the shape of small, round hills with holes in the top to allow cookfire smoke to escape. Tents are used sometimes but this tribe is not nomadic.
Trade Worth: Salt-Fish (Fish that has been kept in barrels of large grain salt for a month to cure), silk, and salt.
Traditions: Sons are more priced due to the labor of the work of the sea and salts and daughters are more prone to work with gathering and making silk. Death ? bodies are taken to sea on boats to be given back to the ocean that gives them much in return

Western Tribes
Name of Tribe: Se'Leqi (Sa'Lokee)
Leader: Gracus u'Lor
Region:
Weather:
Clothing: Light to heavy leathers, wool, furs worn in layers depending on the weather and region
Home: Tents are lived in and used. This tribe is nomadic most of the year throughout their own region
Trade Worth: Wool, furs, horses, and leather
Traditions: Death ? bodies are buried

Others
The Hei'Kor
There are some who live in villages throughout all of the known regions except for Warspears territory. These are called the Hei'Kor (Lost) that lay no claim to any of the tribes and try to live more peaceful lives than those of warriors. Also known as farmers and fishers.
The term Hei'Kor is also an insult (to be lost, senseless, or without knowledge of defense).
