Once again, Bailey turned to his friend and frequent collaborator Roshie Armin-Zadeh for his outfit for Carniveil. Unlike their previous team-ups, this one was a more equal partnership, a compromise between Bailey’s preferred color palette for dresses and Roshie’s love for pretty patterns. He wore a black fit-and-flare silhouetted dress that came halfway down his thighs, with a rounded neck and long sleeves. The skirt of the dress was plain, but the bodice had a scattered white star pattern to give it a pop of energy. Roshie paired it with black heels, while Bailey brought back his red knuckle duster clutch for good measure.

Having cut his hair short for Mallory and Eri’s wedding, he decided to go to a magical hair salon and have his hair grown out to its usual longer length. Instead of letting it fall back in its usual neat and straight waves, he had them pull it up messily atop his head, in something that almost (but not quite) resembled a bun. It helped frame his face better for the makeup he painted around his eyes and across his nose, from his temples to the tops of his cheeks: a purplish black twilight, with glittering stars curving around his eyes and towards his cheekbones.

Bailey found a cheerful looking drug dealer near the entrance to District Avenue, sporting some illusionary wings that contrasted sharply with his green-and-white striped track suit and shaved head. The man claimed to be selling “pure happiness in pill form,” and while Bailey seemed a bit skeptical of his claims, seeing a recent customer take one of the pills and not immediately fall over convinced him to roll the dice. That and the dealer charged him 25% less than the going rate for MDMA.

Bailey watched the acrobats and fire eaters while he waited for the pill to kick in, ignoring the entreatries of the white rabbit holograms and rainbow roads to follow them to additional drinks and drugs. He did snag a bottle of water of an enterprising hawker making his rounds through Carniveil’s grounds, stashing it in his personal portal to the Hedge until he needed it.

The drug didn’t kick in exactly as advertised, but the sensation was pleasant enough that Bailey didn’t care. The feeling fell somewhere between watching a pile of puppies sleeping and seeing a crush smile at you from across the bar. It mixed well with his base layer of amazed contentment at surviving another year, in spite of everything thrown at him.

He let the beat carry him out onto the dance floor, where he lost himself to the music like he had so many countless times before. When he glanced up at the DJ booth, he found himself surprised to recognize the DJ from the previous EgoTrip event he had attended nearly a year and a half ago, right before his exile from the city. Feeling a little braver than he had the last time he spotted her, he went up to the booth and asked Mori Midori to play a song for him:

When the ball finally dropped, ushering in the new year, Bailey kissed whoever was nearby that seemed receptive to his affection and not already partnered off. He may have done so more than once, if there were others nearby who looked alone and welcoming. He didn’t quite make it to sunrise, but the sky was definitely starting to lighten by the time he headed home.

Before she finalized her NYE plans, Lucy texted half the people in her phone to let them know she was going to Carniveil, and where they could find her throughout the night. Of course she waited for the event to get going before she arrived, the lights up, music pulsing. She immediately lost herself in the crowd, exploring all the different stages.

There was something special about going out alone for a night like New Year's Eve. Since living in Rhy'Din, Lucy was getting used to going out by herself, something she never would have done in New York. But here, she loved it.

With a good outfit as her armor, Lucy plunged into the night, drinking with friends, dancing with strangers, losing herself to the celebration of the night. Is anyone getting close to Lucy? Careful! Those Arcadian cocktails she's been drinking are leaving her a bit electrifying!

((She's harmless, but if you touch her, you'll get a tingle!))

Other than meeting up with Lucy at some point during the evening, Jewell had no set plans or even a date. She was flying solo and had absolutely no qualms in doing so. At any time in the night, if she decided she wanted or needed more company than her friends or the hundreds of strangers partying around her, she felt confident in securing it. This was an Empress wholly confident in herself, showing up to drink and dance to the content of the new heart beating inside her chest.

She laughed when she gave Lucy a hug and kiss on the cheek and got an electric tingle in response, and that certainly didn’t stop her from having as many Arcadian cocktails as she wanted throughout the night. There was certainly little risk in doing so… at least for the faerie herself. For others, the drinks seemed to increase that glamoured attraction wrapped around her that she did her best to contain at other times. It was allurement personified, pulling in the unwary. Fortunately, the worst Jewell would do to such ones is steal a kiss and a dance.

Who she kissed at midnight and did she go home with anyone? She was sure the gossip rags would be full of speculation the next day.

There’s no party like an EgoTrip party! One of the best ways to ring in the New Year, in Cane’s entirely not humble opinion, all fire and chaos and lights. He spent the evening running amok with Salvador, both of them high on pixie dust and occasionally drunk out of their minds (courtesy of O’Cleary’s battery acid), and generally causing mayhem wherever they went.

This year they danced--together--entirely unapologetic for its inappropriate nature. It was times like this that Cane became fiercely territorial, making sure no one ever touched Salvador and even going so far as to shove random strangers for daring to get too close. For a while they made a game of cutting lines with the goal of riding every carnival ride in dockside, but got sidetracked from their mission when they stumbled onto the acro scene. The Cajun watched for a while, intent on joining in the fun when he heard something that gave him pause: a familiar song trickling through the streets from several blocks over.

One minute, Feint was in the process of wrapping up a song for a crowd of hundreds upon hundreds of screaming fans, and in the next Cane was on stage bear hugging the lead singer. In a move that would shock nearly everyone who knew him Rhydin’s Best Cajun accepted a mic and joined the pop rock band in singing his heart out for the hyped up crowd. He left after just the one song, relinquishing the stage to its rightful players, and vanished into the crush of bodies to reunite with his lover who was waiting for him in the shadows.

They were on a rooftop when it came time for the fireworks, high above the city streets and its people, listening to the stentorian chant of the crowd as they counted down to midnight. After an exhausting night of dodging bodies, wreaking havoc, and weathering the kaleidoscopic hysteria of their drug induced states, Cane and Sal brought the New Year in with the spanish tradition of eating twelve grapes before the last booming toll of the clock. Afterward, they shared a heated kiss that they continued even as Salvador shoved his lover backward into the shimmering aurora borealis that would take them on a shortcut through the In-Between, and vanished from sight.

Though he’d had a good time at last year’s celebration, Patrick was looking forward to this year’s with the knowledge that he’d be kissing the most gorgeous girl in all creation when the clock struck twelve. Just being with Penny made him happy, and it showed, especially tonight. While he didn’t normally enjoy large crowds, this one was so big they could easily blend in and disappear. Trick bloomed when it felt like there was no one watching.

Though neither of them ate or drank anything provided, they still had a blast tempting fate by going on as many rides as possible before dizziness and/or Penny’s rotten luck with electronics threw a wrench into things. Any friends they happened upon were encouraged to join them on rides or as they walked around, including the brief trip out of Dockside buy a bottle of (safe) champagne from a nearby bodega when they realized they didn’t have anything to toast with.

They came back to the party with time to spare, and after swiping a few empty plastic champagne flutes from a drink stand, filled their glasses and waited for the countdown. The couple shared a magical kiss at the stroke of midnight that left Patrick feeling like his feet would never touch the ground again.

A party like this wasn't exactly Josiah's scene but he did come out for a while to indulge Sabine.

Sabine danced as much as she could with anyone and everyone but also made sure hit up the rides and attractions with Josiah.

Senka indulged and then indulged some more. It was a good thing Danny was there to help keep her upright and safe. She went all out and had fun playing up her look for the night since it seemed to be that almost anything would go. By the end of the night her hair was out of control and she was in need of some good greasy diner food to sop up the liquor in her belly.

There was no disguising the tell-tale horns, but Mallory still donned a Venetian mask for the evening, to go with her frock coat that split the difference between ringleader and mad baroness:

Image

She was not shy about indulging in her share of Arcadian concoctions, and drew revelers down twist and turns with her own collection of glowing crimson conjurelings -- moths, foxes, hellhounds -- though those who followed the witch would find she had disappeared whenever they reached a dead end.

She had left by dawn, late enough that she spent most of the day nursing a hangover before she hosted Trivia Night.
