Challenge for Overlord (WLT Prize)

Post by Rhiannon D Harker »

By virtue of gaining the test free challenge as a prize in the most recent Warlord Tournament, I hereby challenge Rand Helston al'Tan for the title of Overlord.

A day will be chosen by the Overlord as I can be available to duel with him after 10PM by the Eastern Clock any day but Monday. If his schedule permits, this duel will be called by Sheridan Driscoll.

I swear, dealing with thieving bosses has made me slack off. I forgot to validate this even if it doesn't need it!

Denizens of the Duel of Swords!

It was my immense privilege and pleasure to be asked to officiate this challenge between third place prize winner of the Summer Cycle Warlord Tournament, Rhiannon D. Harker, and the current reigning champion Overlord of the Duel of Swords, Rand alTan.

Warlady Rhiannon fought under the standard bearing a rearing unicorn against a sunrise on sapphire. Serving as her Second this evening was her daughter and current holder of the Talon of Redwin, Mairead Harker. Her Lords of Honor were Dennis and Richard Harker Jr, and her Lady of Honor was Catherine Harker.

Overlord Rand fought under the standard bearing the red and gold banner of the red dragon. Serving as his Second this evening was the Baron of New Haven, Jackson Gray. His Ladies of Honor tonight were Morgan le Fay, Crystal, and Lesinda.

The Overlord chose a single duel format for this challenge.

In the beginning, Rhiannon kept the score tilted mostly in her favor, tipping back and forth between having the lead and being tied with the Overlord. By round 7, Rand stole the lead away from her to settle at match point. In the next round, he took the win and secured his 5th defense of the mantle.

Well tried, Rhiannon! Nicely defended, Rand!

Please note: Imp (though he is not at all a Baron presently) has declared himself Renegade to the Overlord.

And as always, here's a run down of the play-by-play. Do enjoy!

Code: Select all

King of the Mountain, Round 1: "This duel starts off messy. Rand's looking to impress us with his phenomenally legendary Limbo skills. Unfortunately, Rhiannon's not messing around. She comes in swinging, and the Overlord is at just the right angle to get his block knocked off. First blood to the Warlady!" ( LC / FDU ) 1 - 0 Rhi

King of the Mountain, Round 2: "Where the cheerleaders in the audience tonight? Somebody oughta be chantin' for Rhi at this rate. Be. Aggressive! Be. E. Aggressive! Except, she shouldn't be listening to anybody waving pompoms this round. Rand gets around her forward advances with grace and style, snagging himself a point to bring this match to a tie." ( TH / FSS ) 1 - 1

King of the Mountain, Round 3: "You ever get that sense of Déjà Vu? Or maybe you're listening to a record and it skips on repeat and it drives you nuts for the next few minutes until you can run into the room to reset the needle? This is a lot like that, except it works out in Rhi's favor because she's clobbering Rand again and taking back the lead." ( LC / FDU ) 2 - 1 Rhiannon

King of the Mountain, Round 4: "They're both out for blood! Which is good. We like that around here. Especially Imp. He's particularly fond of the bleeding. This is not an honest trade though. Rhiannon doubles back on the high swing, but Rand punches through quicker to land the strike that puts them back at even on the board. Two to two!" ( HC / TH ) 2 - 2

King of the Mountain, Round 5: "Now this right here is what masters are made of. The stuff of legends. Rand is showing an impressively potent parry that would've worked wonders had Rhiannon actually followed up on the triple. Instead, she's showing us how flexible she is and getting under the defense, tagging in another point and getting right back in the lead." ( FDU / FCP ) 3 - 2 Rhi

King of the Mountain, Round 6: "Back on the assault, Rhiannon lunges in with the intent to skewer herself an Overlord. Rand has other ideas, however. Ones involving saving his skin and not letting her win this mantle of his easy. He puts up blockade to put a full stop to her advance and evens out the score to three each." ( TH / SH ) 3 - 3

King of the Mountain, Round 7: "This one's a game changer, and it brings one of our contestants to match point. Rhi's put on her dancing shoes and is looking to slip away into a position more advantageous for herself, but Rand's coming in with a high swing that shifts the lead into his hands and puts him at match point." ( FSS / HC ) 4 - 3 Rand

King of the Mountain, Round 8: "They're pulling out all the stops this round, showing us what they're made of! Two very fine flourishing defenses are on display! Rhiannon produces an amazing parry designed to catch and return a low attack from the Overlord that just does not come. Instead, Rand waltzes around her defense and tags himself in as the victor, and once again defends his title as the Overlord of the Duel of Swords!" ( FCP / FSS ) 5 - 3 Rand
