So be it. Though I had promised the Overlord I had no intentions of seeking his title, having the fighter with whom he awarded his grant to seeking this Barony may have altered those plans.

I will add, however, my challenge to you comes with little interaction from the Overlord. He merely fulfilled a promise and issued the grant to me. Nothing more.

It was my immense pleasure and delight -- despite being consistently turned down for a date with the most esteemed Lady Hayashibara (just kidding please don't kill me!) -- to have officiated this grand challenge.

Long story short, the Baroness chose SINGLE COMBAT for this challenge, and in 11 grueling back and forth rounds that were made much more exciting by my own personal commentary....

Artemus Kurgen defeats Hayashibara Aya to become your new Baron of Seaside.

Once again I've bribed the Isle's goblins to provide you this magically constructed scroll of viewing for a recap of the night's events. Enjoy!

DUEL Dris: "Ladies and gentlemen! Esteemed guests! Audience members of various gender and orientation! May I have your attention please! Tonight we are gathered here to bear witness to the challenge of the century! Or maybe just at least this one week."

DUEL Dris: "In the RED corner!" He sweeps out the cane, pointing at that lit up area of the ring with the pearly white globe on the end. "May I present to you the defending Baroness of Seaside, Hayashibara Aya! She duels for you under the Red and White colors of the Shinmei Ryu School. This evening she will have no second serving her, and her Lady of Honor is Arianna in absentia."

DUEL Dris: "In the BLUE corner!" He flips the cane over like a baton and whips it over to point out that lit up area of the ring. "May I present to you the challenger! The most ruggedly delectable druid I may have ever had the pleasure of knowing." W!nk. "Artemus Kurgen! He duels under the colors of black, silver and green. Tonight his attending second is your former (reluctant) Overranger Gren Blockman, and his Lady of Honor, also in absentia, is Rhaine Rhustovich."

DUEL Dris: "The Baroness of Seaside has elected to make this event swift and hopefully exceptionally painful by choosing to make this a single combat determination. Lady." He nods respectfully to Aya. "Sir." And also nods respectfully to Art. "Take your positions, and engage when ready."  He makes a downward cutting motion with the cane, and steps back with a little bow.

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 1: "Perhaps they both missed the part where I suggested this be exceptionally painful, because it seems as if they've decided to make this a dance off instead of a bloody sword fight. That's all right, though. I'm dressed up so very nice with nowhere to go right now. Is nobody... nobody really going to compliment me on my very fine suit? I mean. C'mon. Tophat? Cane? Hello?" DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 2: "Finally! We're getting somewhere! But I think Art got a little bit too excited when he looked over here to actually take a look at my snazzy digs. Or maybe he was checking out my butt. Someone in this room had better be. I paid good money for this suit and I intend to be appreciated! Oh wait. Right. This event isn't about me. It's about Aya kicking his sorry, tree-hugging (I actually really like you, Art, nothing personal) behind and 
drawing first blood here!" (SL/TH) 1 - 0 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 3: "Don't go looking at me like that, Mr. Kurgen! Pay attention to that lady in there in the ring with you! You can make out with me later. Oh that's good. Yes, there you go. Hit her just like that. Well done, sir! It appears as if you actually do know how to fight after all and this match might be more exciting than I initially imagined. I'll give you a gold crown if you can make Aya smile, next!" (LC / FLP) 1 All

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 4: "This is going to be one of those edge of your seat back and forth kind of nights, isn't it. I can feel it in my bones. You two are making me all tingly. Or maybe that's the just the bottle of scotch I downed before I got here kicking in. I don't know. I'm still standing upright well enough. Does it look like I'm wobbling at all, folks? Somebody wanna bring me a breathalizer? No. I'm joking. Really. I'd be slurring worse than this, but a drinks sounds fine." (TH/FSS) 2 - 1 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 5: "See there? What'd I tell you. I'm totally psychic-- Clairvoyant? What's the one where you can predict the future? Maybe I should start betting at the track more. If I can call back and forth like this here without any wagers put down, I could make a killing at the races. Art's tying us right back up. Mhm. Yes. That's what I said." (FCP/TH) 2 All

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 6: "What this match needs is more ping pong. Honestly. Maybe I should've thought about converting this ring into one giant ping pong table and asking them to dress up like rackets. And instead of using swords they could just bounce a ball off each other. Though I'm sure Aya would sooner disembowl me than oblige any kind of tomfoolery. It's going a lot like that anyway. The Baroness takes back the lead, and we move on to the next round!" (LC/FCP) 3 - 2 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 7: "The Baroness it seems is finally done toying with the druid. With spectacular style and grace that even I did not know she was capable of (maybe I should ask her out dancing some time, but she'd probably just turn me down), Aya ticks her lead up even higher and nudges herself closer to a well fought defense. But the game's not over yet, and we still have more rounds to go." (FLP/FSS) 4 - 2 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 8: "My talent for premonition is apparantly more astounding than I give myself credit for, because I was right again! Art's not ready to give up yet, which I really should've expected in any case; man's got stamina. And also is a very fine dancer. Lookit those moves! Ladies should all be swooning! Unless you're not into men. Then maybe just at least give his fancy footwork here some artistic appreciation." (FSS/TH) 4 - 3 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 9: "No really. That's cool. You two take a moment to clear your heads. We've got time. Like I said at the start of this, I've got nowhwere to be. Which is really a shame. I'm dressed up so very fine. And Taneth, you should know that I'm an amazing date. You can ask a few people. I could name names if you like. Or you could just try me out. I hear you like picnics. Oh wait... Right. So. This round is a dud. Moving on." (DU/SH) 4 - 3 Aya

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 10: "Oh ho hoo! It always excites me to no end when I'm able to do this." Slams the butt of his cane into the ground, leaving it to stand on its own. Knocks twice on the pearly globe head and spreads his hands wide. Fireworks shoot up, shrieking and exploding into the air over the ring to form the words ~ S U D D E N  D E A T H ~ "Tie game! Place your bets now, ladies and gentlemen! Will Aya keep the title or will Art walk all over her and steal it away? Find out... next round!" (SH/TH) 4 All

DUEL Dris: SEASIDE 11: "Get ready to cash in your bets folks. Here it comes. The deciding final stroke. One of them is walking away from this as the Baron (or ess) of Seaside. Fortunately this is not a duel to the death, so they'll both be coming out of this alive in either case. Do I sufficiently have you all leaning forward, perched precariously on the edges of your seats? Are you positively twitter-pated with anticipation? Does anybody need a brown paper bag to hyperventilated into so they don't pass  out from the excitement? No? Good. Very good. Here it comes!" Knocks a series out on the head of his cane. "Shave and a haircut--" Snatches up his cane to twirl it around and points it right at Artemus. "Your new Baron of Seaside! Artemus Kurgen!" (HC/CP) 5 - 4 Art

DUEL Dris: "Nicely won, Art, and good try on that defense, Aya! Thank you for choosing me as your entertain--er, em, official of the night! I am always and ever at the service of the dueling community! Should you like a light show of your very own, spread the word around and give me a ring!" Flourishes a bow and steps back from the center stage.
