The Orient is a federation of provinces located roughly 1500 miles from RhyDin. Conceived as a melting pot for those of Asian heritage, its population is comprised primarily of individuals whose ancestry has roots in either Japan, China, or Korea. Through the process of cultural integration a unique people have formed that share a national identity and have adopted similar belief systems and values. The Orient’s population of 1.3 million residents is organized into three distinct provinces that combine the simplicity of yesteryear with the fierce complexity of tomorrow.

The Kongzi Province, more colloquially known as the Tech District, is home to a vast spaceport as well as several dozen technology firms working tirelessly to create and innovate the future. One of the most noteworthy advancements attributed to the Tech District is the permanent conversion from paper monies to the Digi, or Digital Dollar, which has proven safer and more efficient. The Kama Province, referred to as the Agricultural District, was determined to have the richest soil available and deemed most appropriate for subsistence farming, and has since quickly risen to become the largest province in terms of square mileage. This vast expanse of nutrient rich soil, in tandem with several farming innovations provided by Tech District firms allows for national self-sufficiency, with those that surpass government quotas permitted to sell their excess as cash crops. The Dangun Province is the most populous of the three, acting as the residential, commercial, cultural and political center of The Orient. Having expertly blended the ancient sensibilities of holy temples with the towering modernism of sleek skyscrapers, the capital city of Gojoseon is a beacon for tourists.

The Snake, an effective rapid transit system, allows for ease of movement between districts for visitors that wish to take in the sights each province provides. Many laborers in the Tech and Agricultural districts choose to commute to Dangun rather than reside in the province they work in. Common has been adopted as the official language in an effort to boost integration, although there are still many areas where more traditional dialects are spoken and displayed. The government’s power is vested in a bicameral parliament, with a ceremonial President. The Prime Minister is the true Head of State and is held accountable to Parliament.

Military

Grand Headquarters of The Armed Forces

The Orient’s armed forces consist of three primarily defensive branches: The Army, Air Force, and Elite Corps. Having never participated in skirmishes beyond minor border disputes with nomadic clans encroaching upon the Agricultural District’s farmlands, less than 1 percent of the total population is required to serve to maintain stability. With no reserve components The Orient’s policy of selective conscription of able bodied men & women ages 20-27 bolsters forces in a time of need. The Prime Minister serves as the Supreme Commander of the military, though he or she still relies heavily on cabinet advisors from each branch. All three advisors to the Prime Minister have served at least 15 years in their respective divisions.

The Air Force is currently the largest service component. Having taken full advantage of the Tech District’s ingenuity, Sky Carriers police The Orient’s airspace 24/7, deploying Skirmish Fighters to support land operations and activating Transport Modules for ground units that require quick travel over long distances, such as border to border. The strength, speed, and superior tech of The Air Force is the primary deterrent of incursions. The Army is generally considered a secondary service, as their primary function is as a border defense force. Rarely do ground troops stray from their operational posts, as no enemy unit has ever penetrated more than a few miles inland. The Elite Corps is a special branch that serves a host of unique functions. Limited in numbers at any time to only 200 personnel, many members of the Elite Corps supplement individual units, tackling responsibilities with their expertise that would usually require at minimum a squad sized element. Elite Corps Technicians and Marshals not entrenched with an Army or Air Force unit have been known to engage in all forms of espionage, assassination, and other clandestine missions not officially recognized by the government.
