Character Signatures.
Fact:
What you say for your Character goes.
Fact:
Character signatures can be IC, they can be OOC. They can be Both.
Fact:
No one else, NO ONE, has the right to dictate ANYTHING about YOUR character.
Don't like it? That's on you.

I agree with you, except for one point. Animated graphics for signatures, unless a digitized system has been set up instead of the traditional corkboards, don't work for me as IC. I often find the quick loop animation bothersome on my eyes to the point of avoiding the posts by the SNs they appear on.
It would be very simple, given the current trend to have the card style signature blocks, to say that characters are using the old fashioned custom of using calling cards and attaching them to their posts or plastering up printed notes with the calling card printed on them.

But if the player of that character says that that Character signature is IC or OOC, then there's nothing you can say or do about it to change that.PrlUnicorn wrote:I agree with you, except for one point. No, it doesn't work for me IC either, but if a player says that an animated picture is an IC signature, we CANNOT say "No, it's not."
Hell, for all we know it could be a little flip book style signature.
Point is, WE have NO say in what someone says for THEIR character.

"A WIZARD DID IT" is a good excuse IMO.
This post being an example.
I said the picture was moving with magic. Like how they do in Harry Potter.

I'm with Collie's player. I agree with everything you said, but when it comes to the animated signatures. I do tend to find those a bit annoying to see over and over again when reading posts, as I see the signatures as a 'look' into the character. But that's just me.

This isn't about whether or not a character signature is annoying.Maximus Shimmer-scale wrote:I'm with Collie's player. I agree with everything you said, but when it comes to the animated signatures. This is about whether or not someone gets to dictate what a player says their character signature is.
You may find the animated pictures annoying and avoid them, but if the player of those character says "This signature is absolutely IC" There's nothing you can do to say it isn't. All you can do is ignore it.
It'd be as if I said "You, Max, your signature is IC, why does your character sign every single post with a song/poem?" I don't have the right to dictate that for you.

Fact:
Unless the player in question specifies that their Signature is IC, then it is upon the viewing Audience to make that determination... Right or wrong.
You cannot leave the viewing audience to assume one thing and then berate them when they guess wrong.

Like you, G, I voiced my thoughts on the matter. The fast looping ones bug me. So, if someone chooses to use them, this is my way of saying that I might not be reading their posts because their choice of signature block literally hurts my eyes. I'm not asking them to accommodate me, I'm just saying it's a cause and effect situation.G wrote: But if the player of that character says that that Character signature is IC or OOC, then there's nothing you can say or do about it to change that.

What I tried to offer was a middle ground on something that came to mind. Calling cards and printed notes slapped on the cork works as an IC answer.
The Harry Potter magical photos thing works for an IC means of animated picture signature. There's a middle ground, it makes me happy to see the creative suggestions for compromise. I do, however, want to thwap Jesse for the disco ball color flash experience!Spell wrote:"A WIZARD DID IT" is a good excuse IMO.

If you question me and say "Dude, Signatures are OOC" and I say "G's is IC, but Aya's isn't." Well, now you know.Wanda wrote:Fact:

Besides, you're totally ignoring the fact that NOBODY GETS TO DICTATE WHAT A CHARACTERS SIGNATURE IS!
Is that a bit more clear?
Whether or not you are forced to guess "Is this signature IC or not?" is besides the point ENTIRELY. What IS the point is you do NOT get to say "Is this signature IC or OOC. G, hey G, you know what, your Signature is OOC, regardless of what you think. All signatures are OOC whether you like it or not."
Savvy?

You know how you can determine if a sig is IC or OOC?
The same way you can determine if a post is IC or OOC without a sig.
By whether the post is in the IC area or the OOC area. It's really that simple.
It's not like we need to have separate user accounts: "Napoleon Bonarat" for IC posts and "Napoleon Bonarat's Player" for OOC posts.

In what I quoted, I don't see assume in there. So I guess I'm stuck being rather fond of you.Napoleon Bonarat wrote:I edited my post after you quoted. I'm sorry for any confusion. Decided I didn't like assume in there. Tell me you still love me.
