The Champions' Arena Invitational Tournament

Post by Rakeesh »

Word spreads throughout taverns, pubs and over water-coolers in Rhy'din about an up-and-coming tournament to open the new facilities housing The Champions' Arena; the tournament would be the first official team event for the recently re-launched Champions of Mythos.

((See this thread for more information. To RSVP, please respond to the other thread to help me consolidate the information. Thanks!))

Why didn't I get an invite?! Is it because I'm a little person and use magic?!

I will be complaining to the Rhy'Din Civil Rights Institute (RCDI) about this heinous treatment of short and magically inclined people!

They will request, NAY DEMAND, that we get invites.

LITTLE PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS TOO.

Tallstaugh - Name sounds lame. Let me guess, he's tall? Not even on the standings
Sungkut Lanka - Got to Warlord then lost it
Joku Shoyia - Never heard of him so he must not be all that great. Is a Warlord, should just get SoA instead of wasting a spot in a tournament.
Rubi Rose - Stripper name. Isn't even on the standings
Napoleon Bonarat - I will accept this choice
Elaine Aqua - My laughter. It doesn't stop. 2-10-0 on current standings, 21-28-4 on last cycle.

I give this list of "Invite Only" duelists a 2 out of 10, and that's just because Nappy is on the list.

See me after class, Overlord. You could of put together a better list. Here, I'll help you.

1: Xanth Van Bokkelen
2: Rena A Cronin
3: Vinny
4: That Minion of Deathlord
5: Gren
6: Anubis if he puts on his reading glasses.

That's a solid 10/10 list. Sort of. But I don't have much talent to work with when I can't choose from Crew or Beat Down.

Let's call it what it is. This tournament should be known as "Rakeesh giving back to the less fortunate and carrying commoners." Nice to see the Overlords Grant is being used to piggy back the unskilled to success!

At least you would get good PR with a Tournament name like that.

"LITTLE PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS TOO." No. No they don't.
"short and magically inclined people!", switch that to "The mentally challenged." There, I fixed that for you.

I am pleased to be able to create an opportunity for young duelists to obtain a challenge grant through way of a tournament. Tournaments like this are a good way for them to hone their skills and work towards their goal of becoming good duelists in their own rights.

Beyond that, I have faith in the skill level of my teammates. Simply because you are unfamiliar does not reflect poorly on their abilities. Should a less proven duelist receive the grant, they will have to go through some true veterans in the tournament to make that happen - and will have earned their shot at a challenge.

I intend to continue to host a variety of tournaments over time. The last invitational tournament I ran included names like Dalamar, Querylon, Xeric Mues and Jake Thrash. With that tournament, I wanted to provide a platform for a few of the greatest duelists of all-time to face each other in a rare opportunity.

This tournament is for my team, and for a select few new duelists who are working hard to improve and deserve this opportunity.

I'm very happy to be able to do that. Your concerns are narrow-minded. If you defeat me and take my mantle, I am certain that you could invite whomever you would like to your tournament. I certainly would not feel the need to criticize your choices, should that be the case, because you would have earned the right to make those choices through battle and blood. However, you have not even come close to earning that right, so any continued conversation in this matter is superfluous and moot.

Another competitor list is posted, updating the current tournament preview:

Tallstaugh
Sungkut Lanka
Joku Shoyia
Rubi Rose
Napoleon Bonarat
Aenlyn Hollow
Kyra Jessup
Elaine Aqua
Noah Shimmerscale
Zack

All invites have been responded to, with the exception of Gren Blockman and Charles Blackstone. As soon as these final two invitations are given responses, I will begin to post seeding and tournament details.

Here's another thought. You could do what Candy did, and open the tournament up to anybody. Even to me, when we didn't get along. She could have easily told me no, have me sit on the sidelines, but she let me participate anyways.

I guess you're looking for a puppet, though. Enjoy running the gauntlet of Renegade Barons.

Or I could also do what Candy did with her first grant and give it to one of my teammates without any sort of competition, or inclusion, at all. Or I could just go ahead and run my tournament the way that I prefer and you can either complain - or attempt to do something about it in the way of challenging me.

I look forward to being challenged. I thrive on challenges. Your words and perceptions are misplaced. However, that is your right.

WOW. So the guy who can't win a Barony TO SAVE HIS LIFE, is now telling the Overlord how to give away his grant? Hey Jay, maybe you should contribute something other than losses to WRC before you start trying to dictate what other people do that's none of your business in the first place.

By the way, belated congrats on your victory in Candy's tournament over a whole heap of Commoners. Really setting the standard.

Oh! Why didn't you say so? Let me fix the list for you.

1: Yaegor Dalek - Some new guy who, you know, made rank to swordsman in one day.
2: Noah Shimmerscale - The only new commoner who can carry his weight
3: Salvador - 3-0, son
4: Aurast - Madness record last year, newest Grand Master
5: Gren - Newest Warlord, though he should just get SoA
6: Kyra - Win against Matt in Madness

Here. A list of a select few duelists who have been working hard to improve and actually *doing* that.

There's a difference between working hard and showing pity. It's obvious most of the commoners on your list fall under the pity category.

But if you're setting them up for failure, then that's good on you. I'll enjoy watching the show when Elaine/Charles/Zack/etc challenges G or someone else and gets stomped in 5 rounds.

Question for the community. Guess how many sexy-favors each of these non-skilled commoners listed had to perform on Rakeesh to get a spot in his tournament.

Also I really couldn't give a s**t about how Candy did things. She gave her first Grant to a person who, I don't know, can win? And the second one should of just been handed to Jay with the way that tournament was.

A joke. The tournament was a joke.

"this matter is superfluous and moot."

True. Just like your challenge against Koy for MoonBeryl.

You like challenges? I like challenges! I challenge you to a single duel to see if I can win the Overlord Grant!

Am I supposed to be taking Swords advice from someone who quit after getting shut out in a Baron's challenge?

Well, you're doing so well on your own, right? Oh, nevermind, you're not on your own. You have all of WRC's accomplishments to rep while you struggle to contribute anything at all. Is that why you joined up? Couldn't cut it by yourself? I understand.

Also, I retired after being the 72nd Overlord. And, you know, actually managing to win a Barony or two. When you have something that's not four Baronial losses feel free to get back to me, or try to dictate how Rakeesh should roll during his second tenure as Overlord.

G'nort said it best. You're minor league. Gotta earn the right to sit at the big kids table.
