The Champions' Arena

Post by Rakeesh »

Corporate sponsorships and a more monetized approach to supplementing their team has left the re-created Champions of Mythos with a more modern and spacious Arena in which to fight large team matches and hold other events. The large, white portal that leads to the new stadium only opens when an event is to be held, and it does so in front of the burnt down and razed remains of the old Adventurer's Guildhall, the previous home of the team. Entrance to watch the sports or other events at The Champions' Arena is currently free, though drinks and food are what some patrons refer to as "outrageously priced".

The portal itself is large enough for a small elephant to move through it, and it transports those that wander through it to the new stadium, self-entitled The Champions' Arena aboard the vessel 'Phaross Max'. The portal leads those who pass through it onto the second level of the stadium, where the patron seating and bar are located.

The stadium is actually a small self-sustaining air-to-space vessel that floats above the cloudline and Rhy'Din City, using renewable solar technologies to keep it powered. On a clear-skied day, one could look through its wide blast-windows and see the city skyline far below; at night, the stars twinkle beautifully above, and the blast ceilings are withdrawn to allow them to shine down through secondary glass-alloy ceilings and into the stadium.

The stadium itself sports a long, though modest bar and tiny kitchen, capable of serving a small number of patrons easily - though larger crowds tend to back up the on-call staff and long waits are common enough. The bar opens up into the kitchen and both can be found just beyond the patron seating area. Patrons sit on bleachers, or stand at guard-rails, looking over and down to the battleground below.

The dueling area itself appears to have been designed from what was once, obviously, the cargo bay; dirty metallic floors and walls give it a bare appearance. That is not to say that additions have not been made; very occasional booby-traps, such as spring-nets, contained force-fields, laser tripwire and shock blasts fired out of portholes in the surrounding walls do catch duelists off-guard in any sport, and always get a great reaction from the audience. The cold metal of the stadium, floor, walls, stairs leading up to the patron seating - and the patron bleachers and area itself all range from a rusted brown to an autumn red.

Bloodstains do linger on the floor and walls where the duels take place, having stained the metal there and been forgotten by whomever is paid to clean this place.

Other areas of the ship are under lockdown and require keycard and retina scans to access; they are most likely bedrooms and other quarters designated to the home team and its crew. There is a staff of hired guards, medic-bots (there are no wards upon the ship) and others that keep the ship afloat even when no event is taking place.

While humble compared to many high-class space vessels, The Champions' Arena has certainly been re-designed to fit the specific needs of a dueling stadium in the sky. Recent press releases claim that it was a transport vessel with minor battle capabilities, and could still function as such, if its renewable energy and pressure systems did not make it a perfect fit for a small-to-medium sized dueling venue.
