Would like to add some things I've thought about since then. I retract the defensive mods only, since the speed and excitement factor would be helped by both offense and defensive mods. I think the mage powers should be exempt, since most mages use NR and its powerful enough. Plus there would still be a spell others don't have, and modded counters to NR and such would dilute it. Just enough I think to encourage a nice parity.

Like I said in the other thread, how about we actually start playtesting this? I'm willing to do 1-2-3 duels with anyone who trusts me enough to duel in AIM without a caller, and encounters me there. It's actually a pretty solid system; Druid's mun showed it to me.
What you basically do is designate one of the two duelists to do a countdown for each round. Each part of the countdown is done in one distinct send. So 1, enter, 2, enter, 3, enter... and then both duelists send their move. You can tell if someone reneged by how long they take to send. Do it in abbreviations; in other words, FMB instead of Focused Mage Bolt. It won't take that long to type three letters and hit enter.
Usually, 1-2-3 dueling is used to improve the speed and instinct of move selection. But we won't be doing that here; we need to duel as close to normally as we can. So before the countdown starts, each duelist must indicate that they have their selected move in mind. So here's an example of an R1 betwen Jim and Bob:
Jim: Okay, I'm ready.
Bob: I'm ready too.
Jim: 1
Jim: 2
Jim: 3
Bob: FAB
Jim: WB
Jim: Nice... 1 to 0, you.
Sound easy enough?
