Site Suggestion: Display room people are in.

Post by Kalamere »

No idea if Xeno will actually see this, but I've been thinking that it would be cool if the People in Live Role-Play list on the front page was somehow broken down so that I knew which rooms those people were in. I guess this is actually something I'd like to see more on the RDI site than on the RoH site... but since Xeno does both and it shares a good deal of the same code (I assume) doing it in one would theoretically make it portable to the other.

Anyway.. What I mean is this. I come to the site on a Sunday night hoping to get into some Fight Night duels, but I also know there is a tournament of some kind going on. Seeing a list of the 20 people in life role-play is cool, but I don't know what they're doing at this point so I still don't know if dueling is going to be feasible without bringing up the chat. It would be great if I knew at a glance that it's just DUEL Wyh sitting in the Annex by herself while the 19 other folks are on Twilight Isle for the ART or something.

Would it be possible to either:

(a) Have a list per room (showing only the rooms with people in them, preferably), such as:
Lobby: UserName1
The Arena: UserName2, UserName3, UserName4
Twilight Isle: UserName5, UserName6, UserName7, UserName8, UserName9, UserName10

or,

(b) Under the list of names, maybe a list of room names with the room count in parens, eg:
There are 10 people in Live Role-Play: UserName1, etc........
Lobby (1), The Arena (5), Twilight Isle (4)

I'm sure there are other ways to display it as well, those are just the first two to come to mind.

I like this idea. And it's very doable.

I think this is a great idea as well.

Personally I'd love this on the RDI side, sometimes I see like 15 people in live chat and they're all in the lobby. Bleh!

How dare you besmirch the lobby!

Great idea though, Kalamere.

I try to occasionally come up with something that isn't controversial =)

I prefer the (B) option. The other will create a much larger block and push the headlines too far down the page.

I can understand that.

You could also do an on hover display that would create a flyout with the details of who is where. That way the information is still available, but you're not pushing down the headlines at all.

Just wanted to say thanks Jake and Xeno for taking the suggestions and implementing them. Both this and the forum member list sorting.

It's much more convenient to be able to see who is playing in which room now.

Any expectation of porting that over to the RDI site?

Actually, I have been focused on Rings of Honor almost exclusively. I will check with Amaltea on where this task lies in the common priorities list.

Hey Xeno..

Any chance of getting this on the forums page for the "who's online" section? (both the RoH and the RDI if/when it gets around to it).

I rarely (read: never) go to the home page:)

Now you have a reason to. ;)

But seriously, I or Jake will look into it.
