Regarding this one of yours, how about you run such a tournament. Just stick up a post. If you want to hand out a prize that has any influence on regular dueling or standings, shoot me a PM with what you have in mind. I'm sure we'll agree on something. I do happen to have three of the tornadoes in jar back, just to name an example. Perhaps human nature at least in patrons of the isle changed since the ARTs were implemented.

The same goes for everyone who thinks this is a good idea. Do it. Show me.
I admit ignorance to what exactly a Tornado in a Jar is or allows. But I think I saw a sticky about that somewhere so I'll read up in a sec.

And I think that's a great idea. :) I'm talking with someone now about ideas and possibilities. Is Tornado in a Jar the only sanctioned prize or are there others floating about? And are people allowed to come up with unique prizes and pitch them to the coordinators for approval? I think that's what you meant in your post, but I just wanted to be certain.
Carley,

Brigath Cedran, a former DoM admin created the first Tornado's in a Jar when he was Keeper of Air. They are a bottle Elemental Fury that a duelist can use in regular dueling against anyone.

Back in the day when there were more active Mages, we had the Mage Rankings to keep track of mage vs mage (and archmage) duels, and rank the Mages amonst themselves by Mage WoL. This Mage Ranking was what was used for Archmage Tournament seeding. It was also used to encourage more dueling amonst the mages.

If there are enough active mages, this could possibly be reinstated. If there are enough mage duels, it would be better than using RoK ranking for the seeding.

Personally, I would hate to see RoK awarded via tournament. Its current format encourages people to duel on a regular basis. I'd hate to see everyone just waiting to get their WoL via ARTs and then try to win RoK on another tourney night. We're here primarily for weekly dueling, right? And I don't think we've ever even had a mage hold RoK aside from Neo? I think Sivanna won it as a wizard and ended the cycle as a mage. I see nothing wrong with a wizard keeping RoK just in case they fall back to Magician. I'd be surprised to see any of our current character mages keep RoK anyway. Most of us want more people to make mage so we can find someone to duel on a regular dueling night. I don't think it should be a rule that a mage or wizard can't accept RoK though, because I think it should still be up to the character to decide.

And in regard to not allowing higher ranks to enter the ART: More entrants in the ART=more accumulated wins for whoever ends in the top 3. In the last ART there were 5 mages in the tournament and I think 2 wizards. Without those ranks, there would have only been 8 contestants which means the top 3 finishers would have only gotten a couple of wins added to their record. ART also gives players a good opportunity to experience dueling a veteran without anything on the line. What's the point of making mage, then you start dueling mages and find that you can't beat them and drop back to wizard? I think the ART is perfect as it is.

On Tornadoes in a jar, the ArchMage can also award Celestial Furies via tournament or anything approved by Topaz. Shadow won a Celestial Fury in Lem's tournament a few months ago. The tournament was for anyone below wizard (or maybe magician?). I'm a proponent of awarding more elemental items to lower ranks to give them a bit of help, but we should be careful not to award too many. All Keepers could consider hosting low rank tournaments that award a Fury item. Neo, Topaz and I have talked about that idea off and on for about a year now, and I think we all agreed it was a good idea. It's just up to the Keepers to run with it. For any Keeper reading this and wants to know how to create the Elemental Fury item avatar, PM me. I've already got some images you can consider for the Water, Fire, and Earth Furies. All must be approved by Topaz and Amaltea though.

Currently those tornados are the only ones that got used up and made it back to me. Over the years we had other prizes that were just RPed without having profile images.

Yes, people are not only allowed but encouraged to come up with their own tournament ideas and prices and if they come with prices they'd like honored by officials during official dueling they need to pitch the idea and get it sanctioned. Chances are, so long as it's nothing totally outragous, coordinators will sanction the prices. Sometimes a really nifty idea that appeals to a large amount of people gets adopted into official tournaments as prices.

Very good points and upon further consideration I agree the RoK should remain as is. It was indeed created to encourge people to come out and duel on regular duel nights. It will still do that no matter which idea to make advanced spells more flexible we end up adopting.

Well put.

Lem did get prices for his tournament sanctioned. Please take advantage of the groundwork Lem and Neo already did. If you'd rather use your own ideas, please do that, too.

I am looking forward to that day that we can re-instate that.
