Hey y'all!
Just wanted to chime in. First, I wanted to tell you all that I found RoH to be very welcoming. Sure you've got some who are friends and prefer to play together, but as a whole, I found RoH to be very welcoming! I had never spoke to or played with the majority of the people who welcomed me with open arms.
Initially I intended for Joey to only become involved with DoM. Then slowly the friends I had made encouraged me and Joey to expand and try other things to see what we like.
So, Joey tried DoF and Dos as well.
Really Joey's sport is DoM, that's the one she training in. Though, she is admittedly not a serious dueler at this point. Right now it's still a bit of a hobby for her.
DoF would be the next sport Jo' is comfortable in. DoS would be last. It makes little sense for Joey to be doing DoS. She only got into when another character urged her to and was attempting to teach her how it was done so she could get a taste for it.
So, that is why Joey hasn't really played in DoS again, she tried it, it was fun, but it's not "her" sport.
Another reason *I* as a player sometimes refrain from getting involved more is that I simply do not get dueling.
Yep, I can admit that. No matter how many times I read the matrix and the rules and everything else, it's all still a bit jumbled to me. Thankfully, I have some friends who are assisting me with practice sessions and understanding the matrix.
Perhaps many do not continue to duel because they are having difficulty grasping on to the rules or concepts of dueling? Sure, the information is there and readily available. But it can be a bit intimidating and hard to understand.
From what I gather, most of you have sort of been "raised" around dueling in your RP career. It was a important part of your RP and it was a part of it from the beginning.
Perhaps a stream lining of rules, regulations, and the matrix could happen? An easier to follow guide may encourage more people to learn the sports and understand how to gain rank and therefore encourage them to stick around if they believe they can have hope of gaining a title or rank on RoH.
Again, the information is there, it just may be difficult for some to grasp, like myself.
I feel a little doofy admitting that I don't get something that seems to come to easy to most of you, but if it may lend a hand in helping to get more people to participate, I'm all for that.
That's all. Thanks. [/img]

I don't know if this will help, but have you been pointed at the DoS practice game posted at Dueling Zone?Joey Damarco wrote:Yep, I can admit that. Kal tells me he's working on one for DoF.
There are other tools (including the matrices in various formats) posted there as well.

Yup, I am. Since you mention it, this might be a good time for me to ask for some assistance. With the DoS game I was able to give the script a little bit of logic to make it a little less pure random number generation.Jake wrote:Kal tells me he's working on one for DoF.
I'd like to do the same for the DoF one.. but frankly, I know squat about fighting in DoF. I'm happy when I can actually name all the moves in the game.
So, if you're willing to help me out with that, give me a shout and I'll let you know what I need. PM or email this name @aol.com. Otherwise, when I have some more free time I'll start looking around for folks.

Since we're bringing up player retention and player appeal I'm reviving this thread.
Battle Plan
Back when the numbers were the lowest we've ever had them some players came together and discussed ways to bring in some new blood. I figure with all the discussions going on might as well bring it back into the light. The above link also discusses dueling houses, how Xenograg invented Scouting, and several other pertinent information regarding all of the current topics being brought up.
There is also one that Altara put up that I'll go hunting for to link with as well on "What is Role Playing?"

Would it help having the percentages that a move is successful versus other moves and percentages that a move ends with you getting hit? Because that information is tied to Pslyder's matrix over at Dueling Zone.Kalamere wrote: Yup, I am. Since you mention it, this might be a good time for me to ask for some assistance. Ah, well you are credited on the DZ site. I believe I got the file from you.PslyderFTA wrote:One minor thing, concerning that DoF matrix. I did not make it. I kept it, through several computers and hard-drive changes, from way back in the AOHell days. Just so y'all know. But, carry on!
I am guessing you don't remember who created it?

I know its origins are with Panther though I believe even he doesn't remember where it originally bloomed.Jake wrote:Ah, well you are credited on the DZ site. Just a random side note. The Gossip GangSTAR is a direct result of that thread. It took six months worth of planning and plotting but eventually Marc Franco was the outcome.Artemus A. Kurgen wrote:Since we're bringing up player retention and player appeal I'm reviving this thread.

The matrix file? Or the sport? I am pretty sure Panth wasn't the one that created the doc.Artemus A. As for the sport, yes, Panth created DoF. (I know because I've been participating in DoF since the first public appearance.)
DoS is the one no one can find the origin point for. We know it dates back to Q-link, but no one's ever been able to point to a name as the creator.
The credit attributed on the DZ site isn't for the sport itself, just for person who provided the document.

Ah, my mistake. I misread "courtesy of" to mean that you were the creator, and not the provider. Misunderstanding cleared up now!PslyderFTA wrote:One minor thing, concerning that DoF matrix.
