Right, that was the main thing behind my post. Little blurbs. ::chuckles::Which is why I came in. To make sure no one else would have to worry about cringing.::nodnod:: After all, Rekah wasn't serious about the Sorting hat.::grins::Artemus A. I don't think a sorting hat would be ideal. This isn't Hogwarts. ;P
I just figured it'd be a little bit like G said, except without the whole invitation thing. A character chooses a House to enter, and the owners of that House decide whether or not to accept them.
But indeed, like G said, it'd best be left up to the owners of the House to decide how they want to run it. It could very well be invitation only, or it could be open w/ approval, or completely open. Or something completely different.

The ideas of Dueling Houses as presented so far are great. I like the idea of combined Sports Houses, myself, as I play all three sports.
However.
I for one don't want the Houses to end up as some sort of popularity contest, especially when trying to get new members to join up.
By this I mean the old analogy of choosing up sides for dodgeball or any other team sport from a pool of players. I for one don't want to be one of the players either left on the sidelines or the last choice for the team when all of the more popular players have been picked over for the teams. That feeling really sucks.
If the Houses are to work, it's to truly encourage roleplay between more than just certain groups of players. It's to encourage roleplay between all the veteran players and the Joe/Jane New Duelers out there.

Some people not being invited is likely unavoidable. However, there's nothing stopping them from starting their own House.
That's kinda how I started HDT. While popular enough in the past, noone ever asked me if I was interested in joining a House. So, I started my own, invited my friends, and those I thought had potential. Some turned out worse than others. It happens.
Even so, you're not going to have everyone interested in joining a house. Hell, someone may offer a character of mine the option of joining their house, and if I rejected the offer, it might make that house leader feel sad.
But that's the thing. If you're not chosen by one, there could be options for others, or starting your own. There could be clever names involved, etc. No limitations!

The fact that the idea of houses is so open ended, as most of the people in this thread have made known, makes this a moot point. Houses would not be limited or confined by any dueling rules and therefore anyone could create their own house if they feel left out. There could even be specific houses for that, if a group of new duelists decided to band together and form their own and only recruit other new duelists. The possibilities are endless if you put your mind to it.Maranya Valkonan wrote:The ideas of Dueling Houses as presented so far are great. This is pretty much how TDL started. There was a match between Questrion and some high profile/ranked women of DoS dubbed Femme Fatales. I think Amaltea, Luthien, Ellisa Morgan, MorganFay, and... Kaprielle? I can't remember for sure! This was so much fun that Iain organized a league based on the concept that kicked off a few weeks later.Artemus A. Kurgen wrote:Not sure how much of a stretch with the imagination this is, but couldn't Inter-House Tournaments or dueling be akin to our own version of Team Dueling Leagues? The head of each house can coordinate with the others to set up dates and times to hold the house matches and at the end of the tournament the house with the most wins is Inter-House Champion? Say one tournament like that every 3 cycles. Obviously the number of houses would dictate the length, but this is just a fun thought since I KNOW people want TDL to come back, this could sub in the mean time I think.

Just to move things along here. The current dueling house that has a folder is deGoroll, which is headed by Tormay. I know that Topaz has taken on a student so Atrebla can come back I'm sure. Currently Sylus while not actively seeking possible students will not turn away characters that ask for some help in figuring things out. G has hinted he's willing to bring HDT back if enough are willing. Right there are possibly 4 Houses to start with out of numorous possibilities.
So:
deGorol (DGL)
Atrebla (ATL)
House Dragoon Talandor (HDT guessing)
and
Chimaera (CMA).

Point in fact - Tormay invited Sal to join his House (deGorol, is it?). ICly, I had to turn him down. Joining a House really isn't something my character would be interested in. OOCly, however, I was very flattered by the offer and told him so. Just to make sure he understood that it wasn't anything player-personal. I just had to stay true to my character. If he'd invited any of my other characters, the response may have been different.G wrote:Even so, you're not going to have everyone interested in joining a house. I think people need to keep in mind here, what's really being said, is that Houses are an IC element, not an OOC one. Don't take it player-personal if your character doesn't get invited to a House. And for the people running the House, also don't take it player-personal if a character shoots down the offer. The important thing here is RP development, not a social status club.

Yeah, this right here covers the one part that hasn't been outrightly said. It's funny that the point wasn't made until now. Good going Sal.Delahada wrote: I think people need to keep in mind here, what's really being said, is that Houses are an IC element, not an OOC one. Yep, Houses are supposed to be completely IC. Though it might make sense for someone to invite OOC friends to their house and all. But otherwise, It's just another item to enhance the RP elements around here.

Posting this in the RIGHT place...
Dunno if I've any particular understanding of this... XD But a training house would be neat. A few high levels, getting together with some newbies, kind of like duelling school -- it could even be incorporated with the mentorship program. And then, when they make rank, they can 'graduate' out to freelance, or into another house.
Not a requirement or anything. Just a place for really new folks to go, if they want to practice against other new people, or against mentors?
Just a thought.

I don't know the Crew members well enough to really speak for them, that's why I didn't give a mention. If one of them wants to weigh in I more than welcome the added input.
However since the dueling houses are completely an IC entity and it is up to each house on what sports their members compete in I can see the distinct possibility for some minor form of TDL, IFL, and a team magic duel, to be brought up or attempted with the houses. I know there has been off and on a desire for a Team Magic League to be ironed out.

Unfortunately, some kinks have come up in my life over the past week and it doesn't look like I'd have time to throw into a Crew house. I'm pretty sure Tical and Ria don't so unless Kheld had the time, I'm not so sure that a Crew house is something we'd see at this point.Artemus A. Kurgen wrote:I don't know the Crew members well enough to really speak for them, that's why I didn't give a mention. If one of them wants to weigh in I more than welcome the added input.
That being said, I love the idea of houses. I'm all for it and I'd do whatever I could to support and participate.
