Hey people. This is the player who used to play Agrenish Preescott, Damien Cetran and at least five other Warlords that I can think of. I was playing an RPG and made an arrogant, cocky character that reminded me of Aggy so I decided to look up the DoS to see if it's still standing and here you are!
I'm happy to see some familiar names around here but I was surprised to see the loss of the Peer Wins rule, the addition of something called the Squire rank and the removal of the old rings, replaced by new ones.
For those that don't know me, I quit playing about ten years ago but was a staple in the Rings from the end of Athlstan's first reign as Overlord until Avery Shiv Blade. I continued after that but stopped for good I think sometime during Jaycy Ashleana's reign (1996-2001). I played under many names. One of my first DoS memories was coming in under the SN TheEvlSoul and being utterly confused by what was going on. Eventunally I caught on the idea and watched Alais win the crown in a best-of-three match over Athlstan, which helped me learn the game better.
Aside from starting the DoS Quotes, I was never very involved with the OOC stuff or the Team Dueling League (does that still exist?) and I don't think I ever met anyone from here in real life, but four nights a week, at least 4 hours a night I was here dueling and dueling and dueling. I never hit the 100 WoL mark with a single character, but I've often wondered what I would have if my myriad of characters were added together.
The last I dueled was about five years ago but it only lasted about 5 or 6 weeks, shortly after creating a new character built up to Warlord. I work nights and can't come play consistently so rather than do a half-assed job, I stopped altogether.
I had a great time here and during Dalamar's epic reign was probably the best time I ever had playing, aside from winning the Crown myself. I think about this place from time to time and sometimes look over who's Baron or Overlord to see if I recognize anyone. At times I have the urge to play again but I'm I'm in the restaurant industry and I'm lucky to get two days off in a row, let alone a weekend night.
So, I wanted to say hi and see how the old crew was doing. How's attendance? The last time I visited that was a concern. Was that why you did away with the Peer Wins?
And Tasslehofl as Overlord! I remember him being the perennial commoner that we cheered when he made Swordsman for a week, coming in all proud of his one Fancy! Actually, he made Warlord during the end of my playing time, so I'm not all that surprised.
So, stop in and say hello!
~Joe
BTW: Whomever does the histories, could you change Agrenish's last name from "Preescot" to "Preescott"? Thanks.
It's like Prescott college but with an extra E for arrogance.
EDIT: Just a cleanup.

Peer Wins were done away with due to the fact that there was a severe decrease in participation by.. well.. anyone. There were barely enough unique peers to get 10 from. Warlord Tourneys had 3-6 duelists in them at most. So something had to be done.
Attendance now, however, has greatly improved. We've got high levels of participation, plenty of new duelists, all sorts of stuff going on now. There isn't really a desire to return to Peer Wins as of yet, but as it's currently too easy to challenge for a Barony, a rule discussion is taking place currently on these boards in regards to changes there. I don't anticipate a return to peer wins, however, anytime soon.
TDL Is on hiatus at the moment, but there are lots of other activities that have been keeping interest up in the last year.
Other than all that, I hope I answered everything well enough. Good to see you, and feel free to get in a duel or two sometime. No reason to dedicate a TON of time to it, it's okay to be a casual gamer instead of a power duelist now.

Good to see you're still around Gnort... even if you were the first person to take away my Baron Ring (4th, as Sir Cetran . I remember when you were new and a perpetual commoner. Like Tasslehoff. Funny how the perpetual commoners always end up on top at the end. Are there many other old timers still around?
I might stop in for a duel or two sometime soon if the time difference isnt too severe. I'm going to read some of the other posts around here and see if I can figure out all of the changes that have been made. Cheers!
