Challenge to the Overlord

Post by Ticallion Carter »

::A photocopied duplicate of the letter sent earlier in the day to Anubis Karos and G'nort Dragoon-Talanador is placed on the corkboard in the Arena. The only difference in this copy and the originals is that the originals were printed on stout paper and signed with pen::

Overlord Anubis Karos,

Allow me to preface this letter by introducing myself. My name is Henry William Warrensworth, III. As you may or may not be aware, I represent Ticallion Carter in his dueling interests as his agent. I am currently writing this letter at the behest of my client. By now, I am sure that you are cognizant of the fact that Mr. Carter has won the most recent quarterly Warlord Tournament in the Arena. As you know, the Tournament winner, as a matter of course, has the right to a Test of Worthiness-free challenge for the Overlordship should they so desire. I am sure that it comes as little-to-no surprise to you that Mr. Carter wishes to exercise that right.

Perhaps, as you read this letter, you are wondering why Mr. Carter has had me issue the formal challenge on his behalf rather than write to you himself. Allow me to indulge that question and shed some light on the situation now. It has come to Mr. Carter's attention in the recent days and weeks that you have struck a bargain with a close personal friend of his. While neither Mr. Carter nor myself were privy to the bargaining process of this deal, we have been apprised of some of the conditions and how they do (or alternatively, do not) affect Mr. Carter and his interests. The reason I am issuing this challenge on behalf of Mr. Carter is because he wishes to make it abundantly clear that this challenge will operate entirely outside of and independent to the terms of that bargain. Even though he believes you to be well aware of this fact, Mr. Carter would specifically like to emphasize that this challenge should in no way affect the terms of your bargaining or the established relationship between you and your bargaining partner or partners. On a personal note, I would like to request that if there is anything in the aforementioned agreement which impinges or impacts on the dueling interests of my client that have not been disclosed to the public at the present time that I privately be made aware of those clauses in writing. You may contact my client at your leisure, either in person or through an acceptable shared channel (e.g. the boards in the Arena) to discuss the scheduling of the challenge or any other topics.

I wish you the best of luck in the challenge.

Sincerely,
(in the space here is a sprawling, barely legible signature in blue ink above Warrensworth’s printed name)
Henry William Warrensworth, III. Esq.

Reads the letter himself. Tilts his head. Chuckles, shrugs, rolls his eyes, shrugs again, snickers and then pulls out the stamp.

*Thump, thump!*

"Validated, Proceed."

Shaking his head again, he chuckles.

"Interesting way to issue a challenge. How lawyerly."

I see that the gods have smiled upon me in their choice of my opponent.

Accepted.

The Overlord challenge will take place this Wednesday (December 23rd) at 10pm EST. For those of you keeping score at home, this is the same exact time as the highly anticipated Challenge for the Barony of Seaside.

Almost forgot. We need a caller for Wednesday night, too. Any takers?

Oh the drama! Oh the SUSPENSE! Oh the lawyer-words I don't understand!

I can call both if it comes down to it! 'Cause, you know, I'll be there anyway.

This was the most friggin' painful match I have ever seen in the rings. Seriously. I've seen some vicious stuff in my short time here, but I'm talking about some flesh-tearing aggression and I pity the guy that has to clean up the blood that's all over the ring at the end of the night. Gross.

Anyway! Being called simultaneously with the Seaside Challenge, the Overlord went up against Wrecking Crew's Ticallion Carter! Hooraaay! The Overlord fought under his usual banner of the Eye of Ra entwined with a serpent, his second was Baron Xanth Van Bokkelen and his Lady of Honor was Dawn Shadowbane-Karos, in absentia. Tical went with the Wrecking Crew colors of grey and blue with no Lady of Honor and Maria Graziano as his second. At least everyone's colors matched for this challenge match. That's a nice forward step.

The Overlord chose the format of best of three, and after three pretty bloody matches, Tical came out the victor! All Hail the Overlord! ... or at least, that's what everybody keeps yelling.

After the match, Baron Xanth and Baroness Jaycy both claimed renegade to Overlord Tical. No one should be shocked.
