First Round: Jeff Oakenshield vs. Sascha Sau Bau was..well, it was just like the other no. 1s vs. no. 16s...a total blowout by one of DoS's most accomplished duelists ever against an opponent who, with all due respect, probably shouldn't have been here in the first place. I openly admitted in the first round writeup that it was a mismatch; evidently, everyone agreed. Jeff won by a dominating 13 votes to none...the scary thing is that the tallies would have almost certainly been even more lopsided were it not for the limited voting period that I was forced to apply to this duel.

On the other hand...Unagi defeated Verceterix Gavin Favre in dominating fashion as well...and that surprised me. I asked the question of what was the better quality...a consistent B/B+/A- duelist, or a duelist who regularly fluctuated between A/A+ and C/C-. Well...as was explained to me by one voter, they were envisioning this as being a matter of every competitor being at their very best; hence the total lack of upsets in a game that is very prone to them. Given that variable, people chose the inconsistent dueler over the consistent one. Still, the 12-2 vote margin was surprisingly lopsided and probably unrepresentative of how this duel would really go...I don't see it being a blowout.

Past History: None. They have probably dueled in the Arena on weekends in the "Age of Dalamar"...but there is no way to ascertain the results of those duels, unfortunately.

"Common Links" in Challenge and Tournament Duels: Unagi lost to Magnus Eques in an unsuccessful challenge for the 13th Ring, Jeff lost to Magnus in a Test of Worthiness duel in Jan. 1999 when Jeff was championing Overlord Dalamar Ar'Daumon; Magnus's victories here would have occurred at least within six months of one another.
