The Magic Item Rack

Post by Sai Kurou »

It happened during quiet hours, while no one was there. A puff of black smoke marked the arrival of the astral demon, Sai Kurou, on Twilight Isle. Held in one hand, a large bag. On the opposite shoulder, many large boards of wood. Blood red eyes surveyed the isle, looking for a suitable place to build something. They fell on a decently sized tree placed conveniently next to the bar. That would work. He set the bag down on the sand next to him. Clinking sounds within the bag caught the attention of some nearby goblins.

Another puff of black smoke, and he had a hammer and a bunch of nails. He got right to work. The result a half hour or so later was a very crudely made rack, which was really just a set of very crudely built shelves. Words can't express how badly of a job he did. Though the dissatisfied expression on his face as he stood back and looked at it, scratching his head, might be able to. The revolted expressions of the crowd of goblins looking at it might be able to as well. They were also really confused. They had no idea what Sai was doing. The astral demon started back toward the bag, and opened it up.

He started pulling out lots and lots of magical items, and setting them on the "rack". Amulets, rings, bracelets, wands, rods, staves, orbs, and even more eccentric items that were hard to describe. Lots of magical utilities, varied in type, function, and appearance. And a few potions too, for good measure. They varied in function and appearance too. The last piece to be put there was a simple book with descriptions for each item on the rack. Once he was done setting them up there, he stood back, grinned, and nodded. It looked like crap, but it seemed to be holding up. He started back toward the bag, which was now half as full as it was before.

The goblins looked upon the creation with new-found clarity. They finally understood what it was supposed to be. They murmured amongst each other, and after a few seconds, decided to swarm the rack. Sai whipped around and fumed exaggeratedly. "Hey, you pricks! Don't st-- huh?" Those who don't know better than to pay the goblins might have seen this sight before: one of those cartoon-style combat clouds. Normally, one would hear pows, whams, and biffs. Sounds of brutality. Instead, there were sounds of construction. Hammer hits, sawing, power tools, so on, and so forth. Sai watched wide-eyed. Were they... revamping it?

They were. Once the dust cleared, the shoddy rack that Sai had built was no more. The goblins stood before the new piece of work, grinning up at Sai, hoping he approved. This piece of work was finely crafted. Dedicated places and fixtures for each type of magical utility, including a box for the uncategorizable eccentricities. Nice dark brown finish on the wood. And it didn't look like it would break if anyone so much as touched it the wrong way like the old one did. There was even a nice stand for the book describing the items. Oh yeah. This thing was nice. Who knew the goblins had this kind of craftsmanship? Sai grinned back, proud of what they've done, though his eyes were on the new rack and not the goblins. "Zeon... Noelle... This is all your fault," he whispered, with a faint smirk. He then looked to the goblins and grinned. "Alright, you guys! Let's go to the Annex! And don't even think about telling anyone I was involved in this!" He grabbed the bag and proudly marched toward and through the portal, a line of goblins marching behind him.

One mischievous goblin remained, though. He snickered as he grabbed one of the wands from the rack, and decided to make off with it. He started heading away from the dueling area. He soon figured out how bad of an idea that was once he was sufficiently far enough. It turned out that wand had a thing for fire, and it, well... set the goblin on fire. He ran around in a circle, screeching. Then he stopped, dropped, and rolled, until he had rolled a few feet back into the dueling area. The flames went out. The now severely charred goblin got up, returned the wand to the rack, and left, still smoldering. Sai dashed back through the portal and over to the rack, and jammed a simple sign into the ground by it. "Do not steal the items. No, really. Don't. It's a really bad idea." He then dashed back through the portal.
