Xenograg Division: Xenograg kathu-Darelir(3) vs. Amaltea(14)

Post by Cassius Gaius Maximius »

Xenograg kathu-Darelir

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Point of Origin: The Demodar Empire, located on a world named Panadus. Known accounts of the Demodar Empire give the impression that is similar to multiple Eurasian land empires on Earth before the invention of gunpowder weaponry, where a warrior elite based on a rough-hewn, cavalry-based nomadic culture with it's base in a steppe or desert region ruling over settled agriculturalists based in more fertile and well-watered regions.(On Earth, gunpowder weaponry utilized by the agriculturalists ended the military dominance of the nomads for good and reduced them to backwaters; it is unknown if this ever happened in Panadus.) Is said to have fled to Rhydin in the aftermath of a civil war; a very frequent occurence amongst steppe nomads.

Occupation: Nobility; ethnically, Xenograg is said to be a mixture of a nomadic steppe people with much similarities with Earth's Mongols or Seljuk Turks, and one of the farming peoples under their thrall. A general in his youth, Xenograg is presently a very powerful and learned sorceror who specializes in military-based magics. In the Arena, he was the head of House Darelir, one of the first dueling factions in DoS history.

Preferred Weapon: The Ostego, a long-bladed sword which is best wielded with two hands upon the hilt. The Ostego is a powerful weapon with a tremendous reach, capable of delivering brutal, demoralizing blows.

TDL History: N/A. Xenograg is one of a very few high-profile duelists who has never stepped foot to duel in a TDL ring; he underwent a very long hiatus from the duels which coincided with most of TDL's existence.

DoS Titles Held: 3-time former Overlord(1st reign, 4 defenses), former Baron of the 5th, 2-time former Baron of the 11th/Old Market(2nd reign, 2 defenses). Xenograg was the first duelist to hold the Overlordship more than once, and the first to hold it three times: He secured this record in 1995 and held it until Cletus Ganderfald won his fourth reign as Overlord in the summer of 2007, over 12 years later(Ganderfald tied it the year before). As of this writing, his record has also been tied a second time...ironically, by Anubis Karos, one of Xenograg's most bitter enemies in recent years. Xenograg held the Baron of Old Market for a year; he was the reigning Baron at the time that the seedings for the All-Time Madness were completed, but has since lost the ring to Maria Graziano.

Challenge Victories: Falon Femorbrook--twice(OL Challenge, OL Defense), Juan Sanchez Villabolos Ramirez(OL Challenge), MadMadMax(OL Challenge), Siera Redwin(Challenger in ToW), Max Quinlan Blue(Baronial Challenge-11th), G'nort Dragoon Talanador(Baronial Challenge-Old Market), Fantasy RC(OL Defense), Xeric Mues(Baronial Defense-Old Market), Soerl Lute(Baronial Defense-Old Market). In addition, Xenograg defended the Overlordship against two Warlord challengers whose names are unknown.

Notable Tournament Wins/Placings: Summer 2008 WLT Finalist, placed in the Tournament of the Original Nine Baronies; Xenograg won the Overlord Challenge out of that WLT, which was not Test-free at the time.

DoS Madness History: N/A, although a division is named in his honor. Interestingly enough....while the other three division-namesakes have been inactive for the duration of the Madness's existence(excepting brief returns by Dalamar Ar'Daumon and Athlstan over the last three years), Xenograg has been active the entire time.

vs.

Amaltea

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Point of Origin: Barsi, an island realm immeadiately to the west of Rhydin. Amaltea hails from a milieu which is markedly different than that of her husband's: Barsi is geographically and culturally similar to the island of Britain, with a culture and level of technology roughly equivalent to Western Europe and North America during the late 18th/early 19th century. In other words, if the forces of the Demodar Empire were theoretically to attack Barsi, they would most likely suffer a resounding defeat.

Occupation: Royalty; Amaltea was said to be the heiress to Barsi's throne at one point, or may still have that position. As such, she was trained in swordsmanship to an elite level by Barsi's most gifted and experienced swordsmen. She has spent time as a professional instructor in swordsmanship at the same Imperial Academy that Xenograg is headmaster of....she is very well practiced in the forms and postures of sword fighting, a major advantage in the rings of the Arena over less formally trained opponents. Presently, she also acts as a high official for all three bloodsports in the Rings of Honor.

Preferred Weapon: Tarillion, a longsword.

TDL History: N/A; like her husband, Amaltea has never competed in TDL.

DoS Titles Held: Former Overlady(1 defense). Amaltea is the first female Overlord in the annals of the Duel of Swords.

Challenge Victories: Falon Femorbrook(OL Defense).

Notable Tournament Wins/Placings: Won a Warlord's Tournament in 1994, in which she won the vacant Overlordship as a prize; she defeated Midnight Blue in the finals.

DoS Madness History: 2007: Seeded 5th in the Athlstan Division; lost to Alyx Taliesien by forfeit in the first round.

Head to Head: Unsurprisingly, this is the first-round matchup that I've been asked about the most...I swear, I didn't engineer this, it just happened. Besides the obvious husband/wife dynamic, this duel is also, like it's neighbor, Kalamere vs. Percival, very much a duel that represents a specific portion of DoS history...a portion that is even earlier than Kalamere/Percival, if anything. Needless to say, there is no challenge duel that I know of to serve as a map, but you could be sure that they would know each others's styles very well.

Wow, this brings back memories of when I had to duel him for the Overlord Tournament where I won the title.

Spooky.

Amaltea also knocked me out of the first round of a Warlord Tournament.
