I just think it would be really interesting to see what everyone's thoughts were on characters and their seeding. Especially coming from an IC perspective.
I can't speak for the others, but I can try to do it. But there is some OOC involved. For example, I am not allowed to choose any of my own characters. And I had two characters that I ranked fairly high. Also, it's intended to not draft two characters of the same player into the same division. This is to avoid that conflict where they face off. It's possible that two characters played by one person face off in the last two rounds, for example, but the intent is to avoid doing that altogether as much as possible. Granted, I don't know who plays everyone, so it's always possible that one player ended up with both characters in the same division. I simply tried to avoid that as best I could.

It may not be the best idea to break it down each individual seed, there may be some people who want their identity secret(Though this time around it doesn't seem so bad) If I break down my top, say, 5 picks, would that be ok?

I can understand how listing full reasons for seeding for all 16 picks (from each division manager) might be a little much, but I for one would be interested in reading a breakdown of the top 5 or so from each division.

hullo. A thought came to me (!) yesterday as to how it would be interesting to see a schedule of when opponents had agreed to duel. Of course, that's a nightmare for someone unless some tool was made (maybe like the TDL matchup engine) so that the opponents themselves plugged it in.

The point being that it would be grand to get to go and see when matches of interest were going down.

Of course, this has little to do with anything, unless it also helped the division managers; perhaps then they would not need to officially track duel times ...

This is just thinking aloud, by the way... yeh.

By no means do I want identities spoiled. Not at all. I just think this whole thing is a lot of fun and want to hear more about it. Like I said, I just think it would be interesting to hear and think it's fun and adds more to the tourney.

I'm only asking for reasoning because it reminds me of the debate around the college seeds. I always enjoy that, and then hearing people talk about potential bracket busters and such. I guess I was just looking for something like that here as well. The webpage is awesome, but talking heads are fun to hear too.

Between writing a blog a day and now managing a bracket, I don't believe that I'll have time to break down my bracket pick-by-pick. Plus, I agree with G'nort that far too many of my picks had to be altered due to the OOC concerns that he mentioned. It's just not something that can be explained away easily IC and, honestly, I've already thrown away all of that material.

That being said, I'll try to give you my overall reasoning and the thought process behind my Top 5.

I am a big, gigantic, amazingly insane college sports fan. Therefore, I took the approach very much in the same way it would be taken in the tournament it was named after. I initially looked at which characters had done something over the past year in DoS, especially in the last couple of months (exactly as March Madness tournament seeding is). After that I expanded it to include TDL's Top 20 and then further to include past overlords/warlords. After that I went through and ranked people based on their DoS rankings while taking TDL stats into consideration.

It wasn't an exact science. I pre-ranked my list and did some adjustments before it was set in place. Could I have been wrong? Could I have forgotten things? Absolutely. This was my opinion and I really went about it with good intentions and as open a mind as I could. For the most part, it seemed that the overall top sixteen picks were pretty much just about the same for all four of us. It was once that we got into the middle of the brackets that there were differences. I did not (NOT NOT NOT NOT) rank characters higher due to the players that played them. My reasoning was 100% IC and based merely on the character in front of me.

My first pick: I had the overall first pick and after much debate as to whether I'd choose Jaycy or Roland, I choose Jaycy. Senior baron. With the overlord position in flux, that makes her top dog in my mind.

My second pick: Teagan. What she has accomplished over the past year is nothing short of impressive. She won a Talon of Redwin tournament which earned her a spot in the Overlord Grant Tournament. She won that and then went on to win her challenge. I had her ranked third overall.

My third pick: Aya. Second in TWO warlord tournaments and was a baron twice with one successful defense.

My fourth pick: Tass. Current baron.

My fifth pick: Jewell. Talon winner and had a AWESOME TDL season.

As for this being a lot of fun and wanting to encourage writing on it, go for it! I'd love to see some bracket analysis on the website as there was last year. Unfortunately, with the time I already have allocated daily in my main project, I'm afraid that bracket analysis won't be coming from me unless I stumble my way into a bunch of free time! Anybody passing any of that out???

I'll be posting commentary on the Pool site like I did last year.

Speaking of the pool...

Who didn't contribute their silver nobles to the pot!? ;)

It's no trouble. :) I knew what you meant by that.

Here's how I was ranking it.

Basically, when Billy sent me the whole list for this tourney, it was in a spreadsheet that had already listed everyones accomplishments over the past year. It also had how he was ranking people. I didn't go by that entirely and judged on my own.

I transferred all the names off of that spreadsheet and onto a notepad file and split it into three brackets. Top, Middle and Lower.

The top bracket was composed of major accomplishments such as Baronies, Overlords, tourney winners, defenses, etc. High wins over losses were included as well. TDL final ranks and accomplishments were included as well, but I didn't hold them entirely as high as DoS accomplishments. At times, TDL was all to go on, and likewise, DoS.

Madness tournament placement last year where they got knocked out was a factor too.

So, I had my Top Bracket filled with 14 duelists. Remember, these are how I did my final rankings. People may or may not agree with them and are encouraged to fill their picks however they wish. Here's my top five.

#1: Gnort.
Despite it being me, it was fairly easy to place him there. Only drawback was a lack of impressive WoL over the last year. Still, he was 2 WoL, went 8-6 in TDL with a positive MPDPD, two Baronies (One lost during the last Madness) a defense or two, plus, and this was the main clincher, he won the last Madness tourney.

#2: Aya.
Two Baronies, a Defense, positive WoL over the last year. Two second place finishes in WLTs which led to her baronies, one of which was against the second longest tenured Baron in DoS. Positive TDL record.

#3: Roland.
Comes out of retirement to take first place in the WLT and then beats the first 4 time Overlord. A defense. Not to mention Overlord being the top title in the game. Did well in TDL with a good MPDPD.

#4: Teagan.
Almost went higher up for her, because she had quite an excellent run. Gains Warlord, entered in the Tournament of Champions as Rolands champion for winning the Talon of Redwin tourney. Wins that by beating former Overlord Cletus, then challenges and wins a Barony. Add a respectable TDL record and you have a high seed. I think the only reason I didn't push her higher was because negative MPDPD and her title wasn't Overlord. So Rolands accomplishments are a bit higher than hers.

#5: Maria.
Baroness, a successful defense, positive WoL, excellent TDL record, and a 4th round exit from the Madness last year. These added up to a higher seed than others.

After that, there were enough factors to rank duelists beneath these five. It wasn't easy, mind you. But it still was entertaining to do! :)

I've certainly some input on several things, including the picks/seeding/whichever, but I'll wait until after the tournament is done to give them.

The Dueling Zone is also enlightening. I got so wrapped up in other things lately, I didn't even realize Jewell placed third for MVP. x.x
