DoS Madness 2008!
Inspired by March Madness, a DoS tournament. DoS Madness
-64 duelers will be allowed to enter.
-Brackets will be divided into 4 divisions each with 1-16 seeds. Seeding will be completed by a seeding commission and based entirely at their discretion. Seeding will be based on accomplishments since round one of last year's tournament.
-For a one week grace period, preference will be given to established characters (those who have TDL, DoS, DoF or DoM records) over unknown characters. After the one week grace period, everyone applying will be seeded.
-Players, please limit yourself to only 2 characters.
-Everyone will duel at their Duel of Swords rank. Restrictions on fancies will follow normal DoS rules.
-Duelers will have one week to complete matches (two weeks for the first round). The matches MUST be completed during the dates on the current round's bracket. These dates represent the regular DoS dueling dates for that week.
-There will be NO extensions granted to complete matches.
-You must include your division manager on all scheduling emails.
-Problems with scheduling must be brought to the attention of the division manager.
-If the deadline passes without the match being complete and no emails have been sent to the manager regarding scheduling difficulties, BOTH duelers will be declared in forfeit and eliminated from the tournament.
-When the deadline for match completion passes, emails from matches not completed will be evaluated and the one at fault for not scheduling will be disqualified.
-Contact between the two duelers must be made by Wednesday of the dueling week.
-With such a long tournament (7 weeks), the harsh deadlines are to ensure matches are completed on time.
-Matches may only be completed during regular DoS operating hours. Please keep in mind that matches fought for this tournament will also be counted in a character's regular DoS record.
-When dueling a match for this tournament, please alert your caller beforehand that this match is also for DoS Madness so that the caller can make note of it on their report.
-All Duel of Swords rules must be followed when dueling a match for DoS Madness. The sole exception to this rule is that there will be no ties allowed for DoS Madness. Should no winner be declared after 15 rounds, the match will continue, however, the DoS standings will still reflect a tie for the two duelers involved. Please note, if a dueler is ahead by one point after fifteen rounds, they will be declared the winner. There is no five point minimum to score in this tournament.
-Should a situation arise where a player has two characters facing each other, that situation may be resolved in any way the player deems fit so long as at least one character is eliminated from competition. However, no duel will actually take place or be played out during regular DoS hours. A player using two characters to duel against each other would be in violation of DoS policy. Should this happen, the player will be asked which character they want to have advance by a score of 5-3 in ten rounds and that will be noted in the Tournament results. For IC purposes and reasoning, this match will have been considered a special circumstance and was held outside of normal DoS hours. The player may play this match out if they wish, however no DoS official will be there under his/her DUEL name to call.
-Official updated brackets will be available on the web at http://www.ringsofhonor.org/dos/DoSMadness2008.html. The dates for each round of the tournament are also posted there.
-Unofficial website for bracket pools and information can be found at http://www.ironfists.org/dosmadness
-Please register to Chris Graziano (PM Billy or DUEL Chris Graz). When registering, please provide a valid email address and ROH forum name. Deadline to register is March 21st at 11:59 pm (est). Seeding will then be done and the brackets for the tournament will be posted before March 23rd. The first day for tournament dueling will be March 27th. Rosters, including email addresses and ROH names, for each division will be sent out by the division manager on the day the brackets are posted. Please use this list to schedule matches.
-The first round of dueling will last two weeks but each subsequent round will only last one week.
Prizes:

Hi gang.
The Tentative starting date for the 2008 DoS Madness is going to be this coming Thursday, April 3rd during regular DoS hours.
We hope to have the draft completed on Monday, and seeding done by Tuesday. If there's any delays in the start, the opening round will be extended to a third week. This is to compensate for the immense amount of participants in the first round and the quickness of the round to begin.
It is highly recommended that all duels be completed by the second week so that the second round may begin.
Remember:
-This is a single elimination tournament. Contact with your opponents is mandatory as is including your division manager in the Emails. IM Conversations and Agreements will *NOT* be accepted as proof of schedule unless they are mailed to the duelists and Division Manager.

After some deliberation, I have decided to postpone the Madness Tournament for one week to allow for extra time to make sure everything is in order, to have all the sites running and filled, to allow opponents more time to contact each other and so that the Madness Pool has more time for more people to enter it.
The New Start Date for the Madness will be April 10th. I will be updating the brackets soon.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

The DoS Madness site is up and updated with this year's brackets, so for those interested in doing so you can begin entering your pools.
Same as last year there are 2 pool categories. Please restrict yourselves to 1 entry in each category per RoH login name. Entry fees are 100 or 1000 silver nobles sent to "DoS Madness Pool" before the first duels are fought next Thursday.
Website: http://www.ironfists.org/dos_madness/index.php
Any questions about the pool should be refered to.. umm.. G? Not sure if that's in your hands or not now. I'm just the guy that knows how to write the code.

Just a note that the bracket has the old dates starting on 4/3. It might get confusing as we get into further madness.

I sent an E-Mail to the division this morning; let me know if you didn't receive it. At least one other E-Mail address on my list was misspelled.

Explanation on how seeding was done for this Madness Tournament.
I can't speak completely for everyone else who did the seedings, but there was one rule that was in place.
We ranked and did seeding based on the last years accomplishments ending with the start of the last Madness tournament.
Career stats were not involved in doing seedings. Also, Only TDL stats used were from the time period ending with this past season.
For example, G'norts record for the last year, he had 2 Wins over Losses, a pair of Baronies and 2 defenses, the Madness win, an 8-6 TDL record. That's over the one year. Division managers would have to rank G based on that record.
I, personally, placed DoS accomplishments a bit higher than TDL because the Madness is primarily a DoS tourney. Occasionally, when I came across duelists with relatively close accomplishments, I would use total WoL from both DoS and TDL as the tie breaker.
It was commented during the draft how amazing it was that all four division managers top picks were pretty much the same overall.
Also, I intend to have different Division managers each Madness tourney. This years division managers are myself, Matt Simon, Cassius Maximus, and Marc Franco. Last years was myself, Billy, and Deluthan. We'll see how we do it next year. I don't know what other changes will take place but it will be up for discussion again at the end of this tourney.

Would it be possible for you and the managers to give a breakdown on every seed? And I don't mean by "oh, this person plays so and so, so I'll put them here" but just by how you looked at the character and your reasoning for putting them there.G wrote: It was commented during the draft how amazing it was that all four division managers top picks were pretty much the same overall.
I just think it would be really interesting to see what everyone's thoughts were on characters and their seeding. Especially coming from an IC perspective.
