The creature was a strange shimmering shade of green. Its large dark brown eyes looked innocent and childish. A bright red ribbon was tied around its neck. The creature carried a cream-colored envelope in its paws.
"Gabriel, this is Mettie. He is a custom-designed morph, a semi-sentient creature with high level of empathy. I think he could be a nice pet for you - and a small Yule gift from me. His metabolism allows using most carbon-based organic substances as energy source.
May your world be brighter. At least something I can wish for you.
Rhaine."
The creature waited at the gates of Palazzo.

Dyson found the creature patiently sitting at the front door. It was an odd shade of shimmering green, with dark brown eyes and wore a red ribbon tied about its neck. In it's paws was an envelope, and it was addressed to Master Gabriel.
Dyson brought the creature inside and sent one of the junior butlers to find Gabriel. The sun was beginning to set, and since this was addressed to him, he would need to come and deal with it. It did not look harmful, but whether or not it was house trained remained to be seen. Dyson had never seen such a creature before.
Gabriel arrived a few moments later and studied the creature a moment before kneeling down and asking it for the envelope it still held in its paws. He could tell immediately that the creature was at least partially sentient. And so he treated it with courtesy asking rather than simply taking the envelope.
It made a soft sound as it offered the envelope to Gabriel, and he read the contents. It was from Rhaine, which surprised him greatly.
"So you are called Mettie." His black eyes slid to the morph again before inviting Mettie onto his arm. "Looks like you are easy enough to care for, but now I need to know why Rhaine sent you to me."
The note said she wished for him a brighter world, and he gave a wry smile as he headed for the kitchen to see if Mettie was hungry, and just what foods he preferred.

The morph chirped something and transformed into a bat-like flying shape. It repeated the manner of falcons, flying to sit on Gabriel's arm. Being's skin was warm and silky, as it rubbed its head on Gabriel's hand.
Mettie looked around curiously on the way into the kitchen, commenting everything with either a soft purring sound, or something that resembled a questioning "krrrree?". The color of morph changed from green to pearly blue, and after this - to thundercloud-like lilac tone. The being seemed excited and curious.
"Kir-kree!" and it morphed into a tiny copy of a cook. And returned to initial shape.
