As our playerbase slowly dwindles, and things like TDL and ROH Tournaments have smaller and smaller turnout, it is pretty evident to myself that we need to begin to advertise in large gaming/roleplaying communities and forums online that may eat up something like ROH or TDL. I've created a list of a few such sites, that I will continuously add to - let's discuss tactics here and then create a sort of "press release" to draw players from other communities to us. A lot of these forums are specific to a game or genre - so the best way to draw players may be to create a story and IC post about a character from their world finding a way from that world to the world of ROH/etc, and then posting OOC information about ROH/TDL/etc for those. This idea would also work amazingly well if we used it on all of the various "Wizards of the Coast" world boards, drawing characters and stories from their worlds back to Rhy'Din. I've posted a few WoC boards up, but will post more after we communicate about this some more.

As a seperate idea, I'm not entirely unsure that it might not be a bad idea to try to go talk to someone from Wizards of the Coast about a possible affiliation. Rhy'Din, Dragonsmark, ROH, and TDL are extremely unique and are better done than any other forum/chat rpg community out there; perhaps this kind of underground fantasy world would attract WoC and that could lead to a possible consistant source of new players. It never hurts to have connections with WoC from what I've experienced - and even if they do not feel up to affiliating, they have a forum for "amateur created worlds/campaigns" in which we could use Rhy'Din's extensive history/etc to draw in players through that forum as well.

To be honest, there are way too many people involved in creating the "history" of Rhy'Din to claim it as any sort of cohesive "world-format". It would be nice to get more people involved, but we've finally gotten the basics hammered down in a semi-permenant manner. I think it would take a very large discussion amongst the player-base to determine exactly how much would/should be disclosed at a third-party site like WoC.Rakeesh wrote:As a seperate idea, I'm not entirely unsure that it might not be a bad idea to try to go talk to someone from Wizards of the Coast about a possible affiliation. For example: The Knights Templar and First Catholic Church of Rhy'Din are my "creations"... Without information on the world-setting that I created and drew these elements from, the average gamer would be very confused about the way I portray these two organizations. Heck, I imagine that there's a few questions people here have... even people I'm good friends with and tell background bits to.
Another example: Xenograg & Amaltea. Things they do in Rhy'Din are fine for "community property" (becoming Overlords, holding Baron Rings, being officials, etc.) But the stuff involving their own personal "worlds" are not part of Rhy'Din... and they may not want to put those settings into a "public domain" type setting that this WoC thing would be.
I'm just saying that advertising is fine... but once you start putting large sections of information out on non-affiliated sites (TDL, DZ, IF, etc. are all obviously affiliated sites), then you run the risk of someone being unhappy about their creations being used in a manner they don't like.

Oh, and I've been busy playing Everquest again... the new expansion (Serpent's Spine) is loaded with overlapping quests and lore. Plus, decent item drops and reasonable challenges as you go up in levels. I made a new character, and I've really been enjoying everything so far.
I think SoE needs to start revamping all the starting cities to create these kinds of quest-heavy settings. It really makes playing a new character a lot more fun.

Sadly enough, I don't have a game that's been occupying all my time of late. I just have that dreaded eater of time, work. Ah well.
Remember, in the end, it's all moo.
Meaning it all gets munched on, spit up, chewed on for a while, swallowed, spit up again, chewed on some more, swallowed again, and dumped on the ground in big steaming piles.

Work.. work.. work.. school.. work.. did I mention work?
And when it's not work (I did mention work, right?), its a slew of books..
I'll get back into GW when Night Fall comes out (and I'm not working.. I did mention I work alot, right?).. after exploring 90% of the two continents avail, gathering a third of the elite skills, done all the quests avail.. can only do so much in GW before it gets to be redundant.
So back to work.. (I mentioned I'm busy working, didn't I?)

Hopefully we'll get something from there.

Sorry for the de-railing; but I'll return to topic. I want to get aggressive with this. For the past year or so, we've done a lot of talking about advertising... I want to put together an advertising team, that I will run of players here - and we can brainstorm ways to advertise along with Billy and Amaltea, and we can go out and find communities in which we can draw in new players consistantly.
If you are interested in helping out, please post here(or ask questions), and let me know if you're willing to commit towards really bringing in new players. The internet's huge - our community is awesome - we can totally do this. Nobody wants to see the end of the RoH.
