Dealing with Business

Post by Anjolie Quinn »

Cold hands rose to flushed cheeks as smudges of black were drawn under the femme's eyes while her fingers rubbed diligently to sooth the burn of exhaustion. No matter how much the femme practiced she could only sit and hope that perhaps the War Drac baron would mysteriously fall ill or be taken away from the Nexus. That being said, it was unlikely that the Barons would just hand over the position to her without a fight.

Anjolie groaned out loud just to make sure she was still there. Her husband was either out checking on the duels or at the mansion on the Isle. Unfortunately, business at the Golden Sun had only managed to get worse in her absence. Elizabeth could only handle so much by herself.

There had been an accident earlier in the day. Some of the new recruits brought it to help with getting the fields under control and preparing the stables for the winter had apparently crossed the line. They were learning the ropes with Hank and somehow one of the cockier youths of about nineteen years of age decided it would be "cool" to show his bravery by running towards one of the mares and jumping on her to ride bareback.

Hank was furious and started screaming as soon as he noticed the commotion. It was, however, too late. As soon as the youth, Jason was his name, jumped onto the mare she startled. The jolt wouldn't have been so bad had she not been tethered in the pin.

Whenever Jason landed the mare reared and clawed with her front hooves through the air. As her front hooves reached the ground one of them landed sideways in a bucket and whenever the youth shifted his weight atop the mare she twisted and fell, breaking her leg in the process.

The youth was fired on the spot. Some of his more rowdy friends were asked to leave as well, but the damage had been done. Quinn would have had the creature put down immediately upon realizing that the break would likely kill the mare. The problem with this course of action was the fact that the mare was pregnant and had only a month and half left of carrying her foal.

The femme sighed once more as she stared into her vanity mirror. The mare was one of her favorites and she had cried when she heard the news. Still, Anjolie had the feeling that all this wouldn't have happened if she was around more.

As the days went by she had been absent from the Sun more and more. Keeping up with raising her daughter and not constantly pushing her off on the Overlord's staff was hard enough. Anjolie was always afraid she wasn't giving her enough attention.

Still, as she rubbed her eyes with a renewed fury and sat silently in her thoughts. This was a test of morals that Anjolie wasn't sure she could pass by herself. It would be wrong to test the mare's strength and try to pull her through the rest of the pregnancy before putting her down. That being said, Anjolie didn't want to lose the foal.

What do you do whenever you can't find the lines of right and wrong?
"Even some stories that seem to have been going for ages must eventually come to an end."
