Etude

Welcome to Etude music studio, located in the heart of the Old Temple District. This independent storefront connects to the workshop of two-time former Governor of Rhydin, master luthier Sheridan "Dris" Driscol.

A large selection of hand-crafted, premade instruments are available for purchase in the Etude shopfront. Master Driscol is renowned for his work with stringed instruments and some woodwinds, but more famously for his one-of-a-kind custom made pianos. Applications for personalized commission work are always accepted and open to negotiation. Inquire within!

(NPCs in order: Personal Assistant Berta Stallworth, apprentice Josue Dasilva, shop assistant Kareem Varney, and shop assistant Treena Mora. Their races are human, human, human, and half-elf. Face claims for these NPCs are Helen Mirren, Rico Rodriguez, Trevor Jackson, and Banita Sandhu.)

Most customers of the shop will be greeted by any one of Master Driscol’s apprentices and not the craftsman himself. These young aficionados are knowledgeable about the craft, how each instrument is made, and music in general. They are more than happy to help you find the guitar, violin, viola, cello, bass (and more!) that suits you and your needs. If you can’t find it at Etude already, we can make it for you!

Customers looking to have a custom piece of work commissioned will be directed to the offices of Master Driscol’s personal assistant, Berta Stallworth, who will be more than happy to discuss specifications, the expected completion schedule, and cost with you. The luthier himself is a busy man and does not often deal with customers directly, but there have been known exceptions.*

The Etude studio and workshop is open five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Dris himself is known to be on the premises from noon until closing.

(* If you would like to have a custom piece made for your character, please do not hesitate to DM me. Otherwise, you are welcome to say that your character has purchased a standard, not personalized instrument directly from the Etude storefront at any time. These are limited to any variety of acoustic string, wind, or percussion instruments. Dris does not work with metal nor electric devices, and there are no prefabricated pianos. These are strictly commissioned work. Please be kind to the NPCs. If you have any questions, also please shoot me a message. Thank you. :) )

Opening Day! Finally! Jackie arrived wearing denim capris and a gingham top, but wearing a white work coat over that. Though she likely wouldn't be doing any woodwork on the opening day! Working there, with the other apprentices and following Dris's work was a dream come true for Lil' Miss Can't Be Wrong. Learning the true art to woodworking from someone of such skill was thrilling for Jackie.

Though the young Mariner could knock out a pine box in less than an hour, learning to kerf, to fret, and to join was amazing. She brought a huge bouquet of mixed flowers for the shop and Dris, of course. Bright summery flowers, everything from larkspurs to sunflowers and roses.

And, naturally, she brought a little jade fortune toad. She tucked it into a low shelf looking at the cash register. It had a few little enchantments on it, so it wasn't wise to try and snitch the little fellow from his place.

The streets around town always held things and places that Amaris had yet to explore, always something new.

She loved roaming those shops and unknown places but today she was up for a specific destination. Amaris found herself before the Etude building when she finally got there and looked in the window curiously, before going inside. Her feet guided her through the store as she started to peruse the instruments. While she didn’t have firsthand knowledge on playing an instrument, the 250 silver nobles gift certificate in her pocket had been burning a hole in her pocket and the Christmas money and promise of lessons had her looking carefully at what there was and what she might like.

She had done a little research and had an idea of what she wanted to get and learn. Always the one to try and be different than everyone else because well in truth she knew there were plenty of similarities in the world and she knew she fell in with those but some aspects were hers to try and stand out with.

Getting out of her head she went up to the counter looking about wanting to ask for a specific instrument. While she waited she brought up a picture of a Hurdy-gurdy, and she readied it to show whoever came to assist her.

*” um excuse me?”*

Once she got someone's attention she asked about getting the instrument of her choice making sure of course there weren't any already available. She filled out the forms and selected how she wanted it to look, including telling the clerk how she saw it in her mind's eye to help with the creation process. Once the information was exchanged and Amaris was told about a month they'd get back to her with information on when to pick it up, she would give the gift certificate and the remaining amount to the clerk before heading back out to wander more.
