Challenge for Dockside 2: The Less Personal One
An odd sighting for the arena, Ordark the Grandiloquent made his way towards the cork, delicately tacking a finely written letter to the board.
Lord Jackson Payne,
I do hope this letter finds you in good health and sounder mind than recent events would lead one to believe. My Mistress, Emiria Burke, has chosen to challenge you for the second time in an attempt to wrest control of the Dockside Barony from your grasp.
The reason for my participation in this formal declaration is twofold. Firstly, Mistress Burke is on vacation at present with Master Wren in the Faewilds and is otherwise indisposed to be able to pin the message herself. Secondly, and perhaps more critically moving forward, my mistress has chosen her ward, myself, to conduct all negotiations concerning duels and the challenges thereof in an effort to remove herself from potentially disrupting her day-to-day participation in her chosen Rhy'Din lifestyle. In an effort to ensure that none of the necessary participants for authorizing the legality of this formal declaration would cast doubt upon these words being agreed upon by Mistress Emiria Burke, her newly legally authorized signet and her signature accompany mine at the bottom of this document.
It is important to both Mistress Burke and myself, along with all members of her life and of House Adia, that I make clear that her intentions for this formal declaration do not have any bearing or correlation with preconceived 'grudges' or 'vengance.' The location of the Dockside Mansion is most convenient for her to donate it's ample space to the Second Chances Organization for their overflow of at-risk children in need of shelter, safety and sustenance. This is not to imply that previous grievances are 'paid' or 'forgiven', simply that this is not a 'personal attack', but rather business. Furthermore, she requested that I add to this document that if she had wanted to lower herself to the base desire of pettiness - and I quote - "I would have barked up a very different tree."
If there are any other questions or details necessary to be given, either to Lord Payne or to the managers of the sport of Swords Dueling, I am legally authorized to work on behalf of Mistress Burke and would be happy to field them.
All the best and may your journeys be traveled in safety,

- Title holder acceptance must be publicly posted within 5 days of this validation.
- The challenge must be fought within two weeks (14 days) of validation.
- This tool will assist in helping verify the required dates.
Re: Challenge for Dockside 2: The Less Personal One
There was a noted posted on the Arena’s board, the note written in nice, but hasted writing. The note itself reading
“Due to recent events Jackson’s mental state is not where it should be. He is currently in a state where he is unable to fight for his title, so it has been decided by his family that on his behalf this challenge will be forfeited. So I Zylith Figouria, Rena, and Alexis Simas forfeit this challenge on Jackson Payne’s behalf.”

Due to Jackson's forfeiture, this now falls to the Baron's Council to meet and determine a Champion to defend the Barony against Mira.
Barons, please determine your champion as soon as possible. The deadline for a champion to be selected is by January 9th at midnight eastern.

As this is business, I nominate the Senior Baron, Anubis Karos, to fight in proxy with the format to be decided by him.

Since he is the senior Baron, I will vote for Anubis to stand as champion.

Anubis is old and probably forgot he's a baron. Let's just pick names out of a hat.

Per rules and some tradition, it is the Senior Baron’s right of first refusal.

(( Baron Retirements and Vacancies
1. Should a Baron retire/be stripped, the vacancy shall be placed:
As a prize in the next scheduled All Ranks Tournament (ART) or
In a special tournament format decided by the Duel of Swords Staff, depending on the length of time until the next ART.
2. If the Baron retires/is stripped, and is under challenge the Barons’ Council must convene and choose a Champion to defend the Barony within one week (7 days) of the title being forfeited. Traditionally, the Senior Baron acts as Champion. However, if the Senior Baron declines or defers, then the Barons’ Council may select a different Baron or an active Warlord to act as their Champion against the Challenger. If the title is defended it will be considered vacant and offered as a tournament prize (see #1 above).

Re: Challenge for Dockside 2: The Less Personal One
While it is tradition, the Senior Baron does not have to be the representative if the Baron's Council chooses another eligible champion.
That said, with three votes currently for Anubis, if he accepts or receives another vote that will be a majority decision and he will be the assigned champion.

Due to personal reasons, I do not believe it would be right for me to vote on this matter, and have been advised that I am allowed to abstain. Thus, I am doing so. I apologize for any trouble this causes you all.

....And with that, I am going to bring this to a close by voting for myself and gaining the majority. I thank every Baron for their input.Alasdair Galloway wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 12:01 pm While it is tradition, the Senior Baron does not have to be the representative if the Baron's Council chooses another eligible champion.

With that, this meeting of the Baron's Council is adjourned. I will contact the challenger and make arrangements posthaste.

I'm looking forward to it, Anubis. Been a hot minute since that duel of ours a while back. Bring your A-game.

Re: Challenge for Dockside 2: The Less Personal One
The Duel of Swords staff thanks the Baron's Council for reaching a swift decision in this matter.
As a reminder, as champion, Anubis may choose the format for this match. His choices are between a single duel or a best of three. Should Anubis win, the Barony will remain vacant until the staff can find a suitable format to crown a new Baron. Should Mira win, she will be rewarded with the vacant Barony.
