Challenge for Old Temple

Post by Lord Arithon »

::written in an elegant hand on thick vellum::

To Baroness Rachael Blackthorne,

On considering the standings and noting that you have held the Barony of Old Temple for nearly 9 months without challengers, and noting also in the histories that the ring you bear, once known as the Ring of the First, is one I have never previously held, I challenge you to defend your title with the utmost respect and admiration for your record and abilities. This challenge is borne out of no ill will or belief that you are unsuited to hold the title, but rather in the hopes that I might provide a suitable test and showcase of your own skill of arms!

With sincerest regard,
Arithon Falessen, Comte de Loiselle
52nd Overlord of the Duel of Swords
Former Baron of the 2nd and 10th

A thick white sheet of parchment was tacked onto the corkboard. The message contained within was written in a precise, left-handed script in black ink. A seal in black and gold wax with the impression in the wax of a panther head was at the bottom of the parchment.

Monsieur Falessen,

I admit to some surprise that a challenge to the Barony that I am currently custodian of comes from a quarter that I have not personally encountered in the rings here for some time. I have deeply perused the historical records about your past achievements. I also admit that I wish that I had the honour of observing your skill in the rings within recent memory.

I do not take offense at this challenge, for none was given.

Therefore, I look forward to the honour of facing such an esteemed opponent in the rings to decide the fate of who will henceforth be the custodian of Old Temple, the First Ring.

I accept your challenge.

I was there! The Baroness elected to have Overlord Matt step in on the challenge but Arithon wasn't going to let that get in his way. After 10 rounds and a score of 5-3 Arithon fought his way past the Overlord to step into the ring with Rachael. The fight started pretty equal but in the third round Rachael eased into the lead after side-stepping Arithon's thrust! With that advantage gained she continued on with the next two rounds, gaining a point in each, and securing her defense with a final score of 5-2 in 5.

[ OOC Notes
The Baroness of Old Temple fights under a golden banner of a panther and a wolf. Her lord of honor is her husband Ian Blackthorne and she has no second. The challenger fights under a banner of white and midnight blue. His lady of honor is Jewell Ravenlock and his second is absent. ]

For the curious, this is what the Baroness wore and wielded during her challenge.
