Badass Breaker (Opal) Challenge Grant (as of 8/1/2021, Effective Summer Cycle 2021)

Post by Goldglo »

First introduced during the reign of the 99th Diamond - Empress Jewell Ravenlock (a badass in her own right) - the Badass Board challenges duelers to show off, get wild, and pummel their opponents in a variety of ways! To that end, effective as of the Winter 2021 Cycle…

The Outback is proud to announce that the Badass Board is now a regular part of the Duel of Fists!

The Badass Board Scoring Period will last from the beginning of dueling the day after a Diamond Quest and last until the conclusion of the next Diamond Quest. All duels utilizing brawlers’ maneuvers fought during regulation, tournament, challenge, IFL, or sanctioned exhibition match, will apply. The winner of Diamond Quest will determine the rules that will qualify for the subsequent Badass Board for the cycle (subject to staff approval). If the new Diamond does not declare rules within one week of their Diamond Quest win, the Duel of Fists staff will supply the rules for the ensuing Badass Board.

At the end of the Badass Board Scoring Period, the winner shall be the most badass brawler (i.e. the brawler with the most overall points) and receive the Badass Breaker Challenge Grant. This grant shall have one of three uses:

1. The grant holder, no matter the rank (non-titleholder), may challenge for an Opal that is not under a grace period. If the grant holder is an Emerald, this will not count as their traditional monthly challenge right.

OR

2. The grant holder, if they are an Emerald, may elect to use this grant as a “grace-breaker”, meaning the grant holder may challenge any Opal currently under grace. If the grant is used to break grace, it cannot be additionally utilized as a free challenge right.

OR

3. The grant holder, if they are an Emerald, may opt to select an alternate format for the challenge, with that alternate format being the same format used in the last All-Ranks Tournament (at time of grant award). (i.e., if the last ART was slugfest, the grant holder may choose that the challenge be fought under slugfest rules.) The challenger, if utilizing this option, must announce that intention in their initial challenge post. If the grant is used to choose the alternate format, it cannot be additionally utilized as a free challenge right.

Should an Opal or the Diamond be determined the winner of the Badass Grant, they may not use it themselves. However, they may gift the Badass Grant to a brawler of their choosing (no matter the rank) or break the grace for an Emerald of their choosing to challenge. They may not choose an alternate format challenge for another brawler. This Emerald shall still use their traditional monthly right in the challenge if the Opal or Diamond elects to break the grace period. If the Opal/Diamond gives the grant to anyone, the grant recipient may not use the grace-breaker option or the alternate format option.

Certain ART formats may be deemed incompatible with challenge matches; in that case, slugfest will be the alternate form option and DoF staff will announce that on the initial ART sign up post.

The Badass Grant will be valid for a period of thirty (30) days after it is awarded on the corkboard. This period will not extend if an Opal or the Diamond gifts the grant to another recipient. The Badass Grant holder, or the Opal or Diamond using it, must post on the Public Corkboard that it is being used, for what, and/or for whom.

Edit on January 25, 2024 - The Badass Board and the associated Grant have been defunct for a while now; as such, this thread is being Unstickied.
