Winter Ball -- Ice

Post by Pharlen »

The Governor’s Winter Ball

Ice, baby.

This year’s Winter Ball will be all about the beauty and chill of Ice. Within an intricately crafted hall of ice, created by local artists, the ball will commence December 21st at 8 pm ET within the Winter Wonderland festival grounds.

Follow a trail lined by beautiful spirits of ice, illuminated from within, to a gracious palace crafted nearly entirely of ice. With soaring minarets and sweeping arches, it is a testament to the skill of the artists who have created this ephemeral structure.

Lights of cool blue and white will illuminate the ice sculptures while a cloud of fairy motes rise overhead, twinkling and shimmering. Projections will set off the decor and walls, shining falling snowflakes and aurora borealis against the ice randomly. Illusions of the snow beasts, from the tiny mink to the great polar bear, will prowl around the edges and corners of the hall.

The Sisters of the Dewy Leaf will be in attendance, these delightful little sprites will gladly cast cold resistance upon those politely requesting protection from the cold.

A buffet line of seafood, sushi, sashimi, and other delights on ice await the partiers, while a hot buffet provides delectable beef, chicken, pork and vegetarian shish kabobs and other finger foods. Hot beverages, alcoholic and non, will be served, along with hot chocolate and absinthe drinks. Seating will be carven ice benches covered in furs to keep things comfortable.

An icy bar provided with white sheepskin covered ice block seats will be serving vodka cocktails of all sorts, beers and champagne. The dance floor will be open and all of the best wintery music will be played, from Wizards of the North to Immigrant Song. The DJ will take requests, of course.

A warming room will be provided behind the hot buffet, of course, a snug little cedar cabin furnished with thick furs and a cozy fire, to thaw out as needed. Formal wear, please, but you may want to bring the mink.

Gift Bags!

With glass snow-crows and bat-cat necklaces, fancy pens with lampworked beads, pots of black, red, and green ink, guitar picks, tiny LED flashlights, hard candies and chockies, baggies of turkey-jerkey and packets of Abuelita chocolate, small Lego kits and of course, silicone shot glass ice molds. Enjoy!

The things tomboys do in the name of love.

The girl who preferred jeans, dusty shirts, and cheap beer chose a whimsical gown to wear to the Governer's Ball. The silver with white scrollwork provided a perfect backdrop for bead encrusted accents; tiny rhinestones shimmered and sparkled, adding a little extra magic to the outfit.

But beneath the flowing skirt, mostly hidden from sight, a telltale bit of the tomboy remained. Instead of dainty heels, she wore light gray lace-up boots, perfect for adding three inches to her height and keeping her feet toasty while she danced the night away with her beloved husband.

Max was happy to attend any event with Alasdair at her side, and the Icy decor brought a lot of amusement to the starry eyed young woman. She would be certain to take lots of selfies and pictures with him of course by lots of the ice sculptures before seeking out any cheesy goodies at the refreshment tables.

Pinned in her hair were some golden decorative pins of stars and a few moons.

Seemed Kira was going to break the ice theme and wear gold but after someone points this out to her she grins and explains that she is the sunshine on the icy surface

Rhiannon chose a favorite gown and wrap to wear along with ice blue accessories. A touch of fire was added with a second necklace worn on a shorter chain above the first.

Should she actually make it to the ball, Strawberry had just the outfit picked out. Seemingly made of opaque ice shards, the clingy dress was cool (but not cold) to the touch and held form all night. Her normally pink-blue hair had been temporarily changed to a silvery-blonde to go with the icy makeup and her dapper date's look.

For the evening's theme, Amaranthe decides to lift the ban that she has cast over her wardrobe and elects instead to pay homage to ice in one of its most covert and deadliest forms: Black.

Mallory picked out a dress from a consignment shop just across the river in Old Market, one that gave the impression of creeping black ice; a bolero, to keep herself a little warmer; a dark crystalline tiara and earrings to complement the dress; and after a recent prayer to Tsukuyomi, a pair of high heels borrowed some months ago from a friend who had wandered far from home.
