Symbol: Sphinx
Colors: Purple and Silver
In the West Wing Library, hidden deep within the stacks, students of House Van Bokkelen can find the entrance to their House only if they have the wit (and maybe a little dewey decimal system knowledge) to find the necessary tome to unlock their path. The door itself lies behind a solid oak bookcase that swings inwards to permit those who have pulled the correct book or books to enter. The entrance requirement changes on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, dependent upon the whims of the sphinx charm for which the house is known. Much like House Shadowcast, House Van Bokkelen occupies several floors of the West Tower. Despite the upward rise in the living space, the commons and dorms are darker and cozier than their counterparts in the East. The only windows to be found are in the stairwells.
Otherwise, the rest of the space is more reminiscent of the deepest libraries of the Tower of Earth. Most walls of the commons are covered in towering bookshelves sporting tomes from a number of time periods and even realms, and students can oftentimes be found tucked into comfortable reading nooks while they study or read. Like the other houses, dorms are separated by age and gender, though rumor has it that those trying to violate the privacy charm are punished in interesting ways. Rumors abound in House Van Bokkelen though and others talk more about a mysterious entrance to a lower level of the House behind a portrait of namesake Xanth Van Bokkelen, but only if you can solve a series of riddles to get there.
