Maybe you've seen her.

A reflection in a shop window, out of the corner of your eye. The face between faces, too sallow and still. Gaze too dark. Features too sharp.

Maybe you've seen her.

She'd been a slip of a thing, even in life. A chin up over five feet, pebbles over seven stone. Wild, mocha brown hair to her shoulderblades, with a mind of its own. Eyes the deep, empty dark of a hillside tunnel; hollow and endless.

Maybe you've seen her.

And the burn scar gripping her left shoulder like a reproachful hand. The silver ring on her thumb, too thick for her to be its original owner.

Maybe you've seen her before.

But now, you won't see her coming.
