Five feet and two bold inches of California dreaming, Billie is the daughter of a long-dead groupie mother possessing lily-white skin and a rock-'n-roll guitarist father with sundry obsidian flesh of first-generation Guyanese descent, accent included. An inspired love child, she is full of laughter and bright lights, her own skin the color of coffee mixed so heavily with cream that it resembles butterscotch candy. Her momma's blue eyes belong to her now, wide but exotically sloped, overcrowded with fat curly lashes, and she is petite-athletic with a penchant for surfing and dancing all night long wherever in the world she ends up by the midnight hour. The scent of myrtle follows her, kissed by the morning dew.
