Every once in awhile one of their kind was born smarter than usual, and grew up with an interest in serious scholarly pursuits. Most of these sort were probably eaten by their siblings. But in Griggsworth's case survival was the order of the day.

Who would teach such an exceptional kobold the secrets of arcane lore? A demented old wizard up in the hills would. And armed with celestial magics Griggsworth could now utilize extraplanar travel to search for a new home - a more enlightened one that would accept a kobold with a serious scholarly mind into the academic community.
