When the Squire Rules were in their infancy, any Squire that gained the rank of GM was given challenge rights. This plays into the achievement for Apt Pupil which is earned for winning a title as a Squire. Without that Squire rule still in place, unless a grant is offered, it would be difficult if not impossible to gain a DoS tile as a Squire. (I'm aware that it could also apply to gaining an Opal or Tower) I think it goes without saying that the Squire of an Overlord would avoid challenging a Loyal out of respect for their mentor. Perhaps this is a nod to that older format?
That does make some sense. I didn't know that Squires used to be able to challenge. I won a grant while I was a Squire and somehow managed to win a Barony so I do understand it's pretty hard to pull off. I don't particularly like the idea, but thank you for teaching me at least where the idea might be coming from

Giving this thread a bump since it sort of died off.
So, Overlord gets a Squire of their own. Same perks/benefits as every other squire.
Apt Pupil was brought up. Perhaps bringing it back to attention and making the allowance that all Squires upon earning rank of GM may challenge for a Barony?
This works for Loyal and Renegade Barons alike. Brings the idea of Loyalty Wall back on the table (which has been mentioned to me in private). Also works with the Faction idea thread.

Can we split these up? I like the idea of the OL squire as mirror to the Baron Squires... I think discussing GM Squire challenges and/or Loyal Wall rules diverts us down an entirely different rabbit hole though and may not be conducive to drawing this particular thread to conclusion.

Don't see why not.

would they get a neat weapon?

They'd certainly get a weapon / symbol of station, yes. We've played off the bonus mod for squires as being awarded due to the magical nature of the squire weapon. The squire does not gain the bonus mod if they aren't using it. I don't think it would make sense to do it differently for the Overlord's squire.
I don't think we've nailed down what that weapon should be just yet.. but I think it's best to nail down the mechanics before moving on to the aesthetics.

Maybe something with a crown on. since Overlord is higher than the Barons. So i am thinking maybe they are king.

For reference the current list of squire weapons includes:
- Axe
- Glaive
- Rapier
- Sceptre
- Sickle
- Spear
- Staff
Personally I think it should be a hand held weapon type thing rather than an ornament, like a crown. Plus that just triggers the Overlord crown vs belt discussion that I don't want to get back into.
Sylus had suggested doing something defensive, like a shield or a buckler. Or a sword + shield combination.
There are any number of sword types unaccounted for in the list. Could do a claymore or a bastard sword. Could throw a bone to G and go with a warhammer. Personally I favor giving them a dagger
I guess if we think we're settled on the rules portion of things, we could put a master list of weapon suggestions together and vote, but that'll be a call for Sylus to make.

Isn't the Talon of Redwin a dagger, though? Not to rain on anyone's parade, just wanted to point that out.

There can never be too many daggers

Parrying dagger? That way it can be used with the squires own weapon for dual wielding fun.

Twin daggers can be extremely defensive. Sylus actually knows the IC technique. A parrying dagger and a heavier dagger to support fulcrum blocking at the hilts, leveraging impact pressure through the arms and into the feet, spreading it out.
Anyway....
Current squire weapons:
Staff= reach and bludgeon, Glaive= reach and armor sunder, Spear = Reach and piercing
Axe = mid-range, effective against pole-arms and slashing, Scepter= mid-range bludgeoning, Rapier = Mid Range, piercing/slashing, only sentient item.
Sickle= Close quarters, slashing.
Overlord Squire potential weapons:
Sword and Shield: Mid-range, slashing, piercing, bludgeoning
Dagger/Daggers: Close-quarters and range, slash/pierce.
Mace/Morningstar: Bludgeoning
Lucern Hammer: Range, slashing, piercing, bludgeoning
Vambrace: Close quarters, piercing, hidden-blade. Get all Assasin's Creed

Given what is currently available, I think looking at close-quarters rounds out the overall list. 3 Reach, 3 Mid-Range (weapon extends 3ft-ish beyond arm reach), and 2 Close Quarters.
