I looked through the current rules updates and did not find a contradiction to the following in the Universal Terms of Challenge:

2. All challenges and answer to challenge must be posted on the Public Notice Board for purposes of notification and validation. It is a requirement that when a challenge is issued for a title, that you must place the name of the Barony in the subject line of the post. You must also indicate it is a Challenge.

For a long time, role players have been advised to keep their in and out of character dealings as separate entities. Therefore, characters should not be able to read a challenge answer that is OOC. This is despite Cory's IC response with availability, etc.

While this could be called picking nits, from the IC perspective, Terry has not accepted Cory's challenge and by the rules that could be considered an abdication.

To not put G in the hot seat here, I would appreciate a clarification from one of the other Admins on this.

I don't believe the rules fall into the category of being strictly IC or OOC. They're a mixture of both, and challenges have previously been accepted OOC. Such as this one. I don't believe any stipulation is necessary in regard to IC/OOC issuance or acceptance of challenges. You can issue a challenge from an OOC position, the person can accept it IC, or vice versa.

HOWEVER,

Terry Banished Melanie to Renegade and Melanie responded with a Challenge that supersedes Cory's Challenge on 1/1/15. So at this time, Cory's challenge is on hold until Melanie's challenge is resolved.

I realize the situation regarding Cory's challenge was settled already, but based on this response, my initial inquiry was misunderstood. It's been gnawing at the back of my mind and I feel the need to clarify.

My query was not about whether or not a banished Renegade's challenge superseded a challenge that was previously made and validated. By the rules, that's a given, and that, in and of itself, was not being disputed. My question was whether or not the OOC response, as opposed to an IC one, given within the seven day time frame was acceptable. Characters cannot see that response, so, from the IC standpoint it was not posted on the public notice board. Harris pointed out that this has been done before and within the last few month, ergo, a precedent existed.

I am unsure how one would arrive at the date of 1/5/15 as the date for answering Cory's challenge since that had been done OOC on 29 Dec 2014 which was within the seven day time frame to answer. January 5 was the day Cory proposed to hold the challenge. It could simply be a matter of terminology.
