Tag Team Tournament Rules
(Modified from the DoF Tag Team Tournament rules found here http://www.ringsofhonor.org/forums/view ... hp?t=19697)
Overview
There will be a maximum of sixteen two-man teams (this number is subject to increase based on registration turnout and available callers), for a total of thirty-two duelists. First round matchups will be determined prior to the first night of the tournament via random drawing and the brackets will be set. The tournament will be handled dependent on turnout with preference given to Single elimination unless participation is low. Each duelist will have the number of modifiers (fancies) available in each duel corresponding to his/her rank in the standings.
Dueling
At the start of each match, all participating duelists will have zero points scored against them and will be able to use all of the modifiers that
their individual ranks allow. Each team will choose which team member will begin the match. The maneuvers will be the same ten that are used in regular DoS competition.
The duel will begin in normal fashion (1 vs. 1). Whenever a duelist wishes to tag out to his/her partner, the duelist must inform the caller at the same time that a maneuver is sent in - as the caller tool doesn't allow this option, all duels will take place the old fashioned way (i.e. IMs). The caller of the match will report the results of the round in and also announce that a duelist is tagging out (if the tag was successful).
Example: An IM sent to a caller could look like this: 6. Low Cut, Tag
This means that during round six, that duelist will attempt a Low cut and afterwards, the duelist will also attempt to tag in his/her partner.
Tagging
A tag is only successful if the duelist attempting the tag is not scored upon (i.e. their opponent does not gain either an advantage or a full point in that round). If a duelist attempts a tag and is scored upon, the tag will fail and the next round will continue with the same duelist in the ring, assuming the duelist isn't eliminated at that point in the match.
In the above "6. Low Cut, Tag" example, if the tagging duelist's Cut fails and the duelist is scored upon (ex. Thrust for a full point or Parried for an advantage), the tag will not be successful and the same duelist will have to continue the match in round seven.
If the tag is successful, the duelist entering the ring cannot use the same maneuver that his/her partner used in the previous round. In the "6. Low Cut, Tag" example, if the tag was successful, the tagged-in partner would not be able to use the Low Cut maneuver in Round 7.
Each duelist may only use their allotted number of modifiers throughout the entire match, regardless of the number of tags or how many rounds there are. If necessary, the duel will extend past fifteen rounds. The match continues until the second duelist on a team has at least five points scored upon him/her. Tagging out will not diminish the number of points that are scored on a duelist.
Example: Jesse, a Warlord, duels until three points are scored against her and uses two modifiers in the process. She then successfully tags out to her partner, Xanth. Xanth duels several rounds, and then successfully tags out to Jesse. Jesse then returns to action in the duel, still having three points scored against her and two more modifiers available for the remainder of the match.
Elimination
A full point difference is not necessary for a duelist to be eliminated, only reaching the five point mark. Once a duelist is eliminated, the match will continue with the remaining partner fighting alone. Should both teams suffer the loss of one duelist, regular DoS Rules will apply, wherein a one point lead is required for a victory (i.e. no more tagging).
Example: Jake and Napoleon are on the same team, as are Claire and Kimone. In any given round, Jake has 5 points scored against himself and Kimone has five points scored against herself. Both are eliminated. Napoleon and Claire then enter to continue the match. At one point, Napoleon has 5 points scored against himself and Claire has 5 scored against herself. Since a full point margin is necessary to win the match, the dueling continues. A few rounds later, Napoleon has 7 points scored against himself and Claire has 6 points scored against herself. Napoleon, therefore, is eliminated and the Claire & Kimone team would thus win the match.
Double-Teaming
Once per match a team is allowed a double-team maneuver. When attempting a tag out, the teammate entering the ring may send a move as well. This move must be different than the move being sent by his or her partner; neither duelist can repeat the previous round's move. In a double-team situation, both moves will be scored against the opponent's move - the risk-reward here is that the double-teaming pair can score 2 points in one shot but the double-teamed individual could also score a point against each of the double-teaming pair. After a double-team situation, regardless of whether or not the moves succeed or fail, neither move may be used the next round by the individual who remains in the ring from the double-teaming pair.
Normal tagging rules still apply in the double-team situation; the original member of the double-teaming pair who was in the ring must not be scored on in order to tag out; if their opponent scores a point or ADV against that duelist, that person remains in the ring unless they are eliminated at that point in the match.
To be clear, a double-team attempt does not require a successful tag, but a double-team can only happen on a tag attempt . The results of the double-team (who scores agains whom) will determine which member, of the double teaming pair, remains in the ring for the next round.
***Both duelers participating in the double team need to IM the caller with their move choice***
Double-Team moves should be sent to the caller similar to the following; assuming G and Jaycy were a dueling pair attempting a double-team:
G IMs the caller with: 7. High Cut (DT)
Jaycy IMs the caller with: 7. Slash (DT)
Victory!
The Winning team will become the Tag Team Champions and be awarded 2 extra fancies to pool among themselves in Tag Team Matches.
Tag Team Champions may be challenged Once per Month on a first come, first serve basis and must be defended within that month. For the sake of timing, no challenges may be issued within the last 10 days of the Month for the Tag Team Championship.
Tag Team Champions are awarded Icons in the form of Tag Team Championship Belts that should be transferred upon failed defense to the new champions.
Non-Championship Tag Team matches may take place anytime, providing you have a caller available who is willing to officiate that match.
Registration Requirements
Tag Teams May have Team Names, but it is not required. (I.E. Dashing Slashers, Rock and Sock Connection, Azian Invazion, Team Royals, G and Jaycy, etc.)
Duelists participating Must be listed on the current standings before the tournament begins.
There are no rank requirements. I.E. A Warlord can team up with a Master at Arms, Two Warlords may team up, A Baron and a Commoner may team up, etc.
Reinstated Duelists Must have a duel logged on the standings in order to participate.
Duelists who were zeroed out for Negative WoL need to mention the approximate time they last dueled in case they do not appear on the standings.(I.E. LC has a record of 2-8-0, and is zeroed out. The last duel was two weeks ago, but LC doesn't appear on the standings. LC must mention that they dueled approximately 2 weeks ago. Zeroed out duelists usually do appear on the standings with a 0-0-0 record, so this may not be necessary.)
