The latest Checkup from the Neck Up post and the next several that will be posted are from earlier this year. Jewell was blonde back in February, just to give it some time-placement.

Amusing piece I found in an old journal entry of Jewell's from September 2006:
Does this make Jewell a stuffy person who hides down in the arena all the time now?I’m super excited about the Duel of Swords being at the Inn tonight! I can’t wait to try my hand at it again and see all those stuffy people who hide out down in the arena all the time.

Annnd workers' compensation proves itself to be the devil once again. At the last minute, as always, they have decided they haven't finished processing their paperwork enough to authorize my husband's hospital visit TOMORROW. We just got the call.
I know this is a momentary setback, but it is pretty defeating.
Guess I can sign up for the megabrawl after all. Hurrah..

You learn something new every day.
Today, I learned that I apparently modeled Jewell (without ever intending to) on one of my childhood heroes: Scarlett O'Hara. That's right, Scarlett from Gone with the Wind was one of my childhood heroes. A little weird. I also wrote a speech in 7th grade about how much I love Clark Gable because of Gone with the Wind.
There's a great scene in the beginning of the film where she is sitting at the barbeque, surrounded by men she is shamelessly flirting with even though she doesn't care for a single one of them. She's pampered and prissy, but she is also stronger than everyone else in the movie. Deliver a baby while the city is being bombed? Sure thing. Almost starve to death and keep your whole family alive? No problem. Mother, father, unborn baby, and child die (not to mention the two husbands)? I got this.
Here's to two of my favorite fictional women:
