Diamond Quest 56!

Post by Goldglo » Tue Jan 13, 2009 10:52 pm

Tired of the snow? Want a break from the chill air?

We've got just the thing for you to warm up that blood and stoke the fires in your veins! Whether you're a participant or a spectator, this should be one grand night!

The Fifty-Sixth Diamond Quest will be held on Sunday, January 25th, at 7pm by the Eastern Clock, Emeralds, Opals, and perhaps the current Diamond will try and stake their claim on a piece of DoF history!

Come on down and find out! Cheer your favorites and heckle their opponents. The bigger the crowd, the more these pugilists want to put on a show. Let's make 'em work hard this time out!

Those wanting to take part in the DQ itself should register with Matt and Kheldar. Everyone else, just come on out on the 25th, grab an ale or three, and watch the action!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Five emeralds gathered in the Outback on January 25, 2009 to decide who would be the next Diamond. In attendance were Cassius Gaius Maximius, Kheldar Drasinia, Ticallion Carter, Vincent Smith and Matthew Simon. After a round robin session that included ten duels and 94 grueling rounds, Cass emerged the victor.

The first session saw Cassius with the bye while Kheld faced Vinny and Matt dueled Tical. Vinny started off scoring three straight points before Kheld dodged a jab coming his way. A breather was taken by both before Vinny dropped to the ground, avoiding Kheld's uppercut. Kheld was starting a comeback, scoring in the next two rounds until Vinny closed out the duel with a snapkick to Kheld's middle section, taking the duel 5-3. Matt and Tical seesawed scoring back and forth, Matt scoring then Tical tying before Matt pulled ahead again. This kept going until the eleventh round when Tical moved away from Matt's jab. The next round saw matching armblocks before Tical took his first lead, dropping Matt to the ground to take the win 5-4.

Session two saw Tical on the sideline while Kheld faced Matt and Cass clashed with Vinny. Kheld and Matt mirrored moves for the first two rounds then Kheld took a slight lead. He didn't keep it long as Matt swung and connected with a jab. Kheld decided to use the same move against Matt and connected also to pull ahead once more. The next round was null then Kheld swung again, connecting with a second jab before Matt could get off his uppercut, taking the duel 5-3. Meanwhile, Cass and Vinny traded barbs as well as bruises and blows. As with the secind match in the first session, this one was also a seesaw battle. Vinny scored first, pulling his punch at the last minute and faking out Cassbut Vinny then took a snapkick from Cass which tied the score. Vinny swung out and connected with Cass's jaw but two rounds later, the mage hit the mat as his legs were caught by the sweeping Roman. A lesson on flying was given by Cass as he was tossed overhead by Vinny. A fake flip by Cass tied it up, Vinny retook the lead with a very pretty armblock, Cass once again tied it with a chop. And like in the Matt/Tical matchCass took his first lead and the win by evading Vinny's jumpkick, 5-4.

After 2 rounds:Cass and Tical are 1-0, Kheld and Vinny are 1-1 and Matt is 0-2.

Session three had Cass and Matt dueling while Tical and Kheld were in the other ring as Vinny took a seat at the bar. Matt seemed to like seesaw battles as this was his third that went back and forth. A null round started it off then Cass connected with a jab. Matt chopped back in the following round to tie:Cass retook the getting out of the way of the governor's jab. Dual sweeps were followed by another swing from Matt, beating his opponent's hook. Another set of dual sweeps preceded a nice dodge by Cass who took this duel 5-4 in eleven. Tical, in the meantime, decided it was a good time to move and it was as it allowed him to avoid Kheld's swing. After a no scoring round, matching jabs kept Tical in the lead before he got chopped by Kheld to tie the score in the fifth. Kheld gave us flying lessons as he was flipped over by his opponent who then hit the mat as Kheld took out Tical's legs with a sweep. Kheld gained his first lead in round seven, faking a jumpkick as Tical dropped. No score in the next two rounds until Tical hit the mat again, giving Kheld the match 5-3.

Kheld sat out the fourth session as Cass took on Tical and Matt duked it out with Vinny. The Roman and Governor started off and connected with jabs whereas Cass, in the next round, kept his lead while Matt hit the mat as Vinny swept him off his feet. Cass and Tical mirrored sweeps and the other pair traded jabs. Cass and Tical then took a break from scoring until round 6 as they traded jabs. In the other ring, Matt retook the lead, spinkicking Vinny before the mage could get away. Vinny wasn't giving up though as once again Matt hit the mat, tying the score at 3 all. Matt returned the favor, taking Vinny to the mat to regain the lead. A swing out by Matt connected, giving the governor his first win 5-3. Cass, in the first ring, took to the air, avoiding Tical's sweep to increase his lead 4-2. The deal was sealed with Tical's swing hit nothing but air. Cass won, 5-2.

After 4 sessions:Cass 3-0, Kheld 2-1, Vinny and Tical 1-2, Matt 1-3.

The last round robin duels had the only two who had a chance of becoming the next Diamond, Tical and Cass in one ring while Kheld and Vinny were in the other ring(Matt had the bye). Cass was in a hurry it seems as he rolled off three straight points before Kheld got one in. Kheld couldn't stop the momentum though as Cass first faked a flip then threw in a punch. Kheld threw his own matching punch in the last round as Cass claimed the duel 5-2 in the shortest fight of the night. Vinny and Tical, meanwhile, started off with a matching set of jabs before Tical took the lead as his kick(snap) was better launched than Vinny's kick(snap). A spinkick, though, tied the match for the mage followed by a pulled jab that gave Vinny the lead. As in earlier duels though, a jab tied it for Tical then a dodge two rounds later gave him the lead. Vinny armblocked for the tie then they spent time watching each other, looking for an edge. Tical spied one, taking Vinny to the mat to claim the win, 5-4.

After the conclusion of the round robin, Cass was 4-0, Kheld and Tical was 2-2 and Vinny and Matt 1-3.

Congratulations to Cass for becoming the 56th Diamond.
