Challenge for Seaside

Post by Losden »

As sent to all necessary parties--

Baroness Wilder,

As per my right granted to me by Overlord Ganderfald, I hereby challenge you for the Barony of Seaside.

I have little knowledge of or interest in your feud with Lord Ganderfald. My interest lies with the Seaside district, where I oversee security for the Nausikaa Hotel and thus must act in the best interests of its patrons and neighbors. In recent months, a seedy element from the Rhydin docks has begun to perforate our area of the city and threaten our livelihood. I have no choice but to accuse your watch of Seaside as being insufficient.

I look forward to our match.

Along wandered Gnimish and his faithful companion, the drooling Drakhan. In the gnomes hand was a small piece of crystal clear glass, which he managed to get stuck onto the corkboard beneath the challenge declaration.

Gnimish stepped back to survey his work, giving it an approving nod once he decided it was nice and level. "There, that oughta do it."

Apparently confused, Drakhan just looked up at the piece of glass, then at Gnimish.

Gnimish looked right back, almost glaring. "Whaddya mean, what's it for? Isn't it obvious?"

Drakhan shook his head slowly. The glass wasn't as obvious as Gnimish hoped, it seemed.

"It's to show how transparent this whole challenge grant thing is! C'mon."

Drakhan just silently shook his head again.

"Whaddya mean no one will get it? Sure they will, not everyone's as dumb as you, lizard!" And with that Gnimish kicked at the lizard, who dodged out of the way and scurried off with Gnimish giving chase close behind, leaving the piece of glass stuck to the board.

Ifin ye are indeed th' head o' security fer th' Nausikaa Hotel, ye should make it yer business tae know o' th' fueds involvin' yer Patrons. So yer either a liar or bad at yer job.

If there's a prollem with unrulies in Seaside, yers is th' first word I've 'eard about it. Did ye consider takin' th' matter tae th' Watch, or e'en bringin' it tae me attention yerself afor this?

'Tis th' common practice in Rhy'Din tae let private security forces an' militias handle their own areas... so ifin there be trouble thet's only affectin' th' Nausikaa Hotel an' yer people, 'tis nae wonder no word o' it 'as come tae me.

Th' District o' Seaside 'as been at it's most peaceful since th' days when Skyler 'eld th' Ring. E'en durin' th' troubles in th' Old Temple District, Seaside remained a calm rock. Th' only trouble bein' stirred up thet I kin see comes from th' Nausikaans.

I'll meet ye in th' Ring, as I've nae issues wit ye... but nae matter th' result I shall be comin' fer Cletus after this.

I have little knowledge or interest in whatever "feud" Wilder thinks she has with me as well. I'm sure something I said may have hurt her fragile ego in the past, but I can only recall challenging her once over a ring I would have challenged anyone for at the time.

I would be disturbed by this obsession she has with me, if I viewed her as anything more than that insignificant gnat that hovers around the eye on a muggy summer afternoon.

I have no doubt that my interests in Seaside are protected, despite this watch's ineptitude, however when Colonel Fagan approached me about taking control of this district, I offered him the opportunity simply because I'll do what I can to keep anyone from holding a third Overlord title. That is a club I do not want to see another member enter into.

And before you prove any further that you have no idea what you attempt to write about, Wilder, Skyler never held the district of Seaside. But please, should you make it through Losden, challenge away. The only reason I hold a title in this sport is for the entertainment it offers, and keeping someone from a third Overlord title would prove quite enjoyable. Even a challenger as dull as yourself.

Ganderfald.

Ye could nae keep me from a second Overlord title, what makes ye so sure ye kin keep me from a third? We all know thet's th' real reason Losden's challengin' me... an' why Damien's been rushin' around tae gather up Peer Wins.

An' ye know well what th' feud is 'tween us. Ye an' yers attacked my friends. There's been bad blood 'tween us fer a long time now.

Nae matter what happens, ye'll nae hold th' Title fer more'n a Cycle.

It's always a fun thing to see some sort of rivalries going on around here. There's not enough of them to go around. It adds a little spice to an otherwise dull discussion of challenges.

Karen vs Cletus... Cletus, darnit change your name, please, that's not scary and I'm embarrassed to say it. Dolph or Turlock, try that. Cletus, ya know, OOOO Watch out for Cletus! I'm scared of Cletus! Sorry, Karen vs Cletus is a bit interesting, like when him and me and Tareth and Chuck and Maria all had our little things going on.

It adds some interest. Except for the name. Yeah.

You continue to be delusional, Wilder. You may have bad blood, but I have none. I have no feeling at all toward you. You're an insignificant twit that poses absolutely no threat to me, my family, or my interests.

But I'll repeat, I more than welcome a challenge from you, and every other Baron or Warlord for that matter. That's the sole reason I hold this title and the reason I have never, or will ever hide behind the Test. And I hope any challenge proves as interesting as the first time your obsession manifested itself when you challenged my first reign as Overlord.

Baroness Wilder,

If your Watch was competent, you would have heard of the thievery long before I or any other citizen of Seaside would have had to seek you out and bring your attention to it. Do not place blame on those you claim to protect for not doing your job for you.

If you intend to meet my challenge, I suggest you establish the time and day. I am available most evenings.

::She was sweaty, tired and very sore... but still she took the time to walk over to the corkboard. She accepted a pen from her Squire and drew a single line through Losden's signature upon his challenge notice. Next to that, she wrote "Damien too!"

Her handwriting was distinctive enough... it should get the message through quite clearly...

Well, at least as clearly as Gnimish's piece of crystal clear glass...::
