So AIM hates me

Post by Naiya Starwind »

I was planning on actually going to DoM today, but low and behold apparently my screen name is blocked. Messing with it just gave me a headache so I gave up. I have no clue as to how this happened.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm having a problem finding a proper email for the aim support.

G'nort's player mentioned (on the TDL site) that he had a similar problem.

I haven't checked all my AIM SNs yet, but my Karen J Wilder SN was fine last week.

My screen name is also blocked, the G TaLanador one. I've been using G Taianador recently. I thought it might have been something to do with the account it was once attached to being closed, but now I'm wondering.

Aside from it being attached to a cancelled account, I couldn't think of a likely reason aside from two others.

1. Canceled cause someone may have reported it as doing something profane or against the AIM ToS rules, which there are some. I thought this unlikely.

2. I got hacked and they used that AIM SN to do IM Spamming(Which annoys me to no end) However I dont know the likelyhood of that, although it is still a possibility, despite all virus scans, System Mechanic maintenence and Ad Aware work shows up fairly clean with exception to some standard cookies that always show up.

The Third is that it was once an SN attached to an actual AOL account from a while back which was cancelled. Have you cancelled your AOL account at all? I've only the one SN to test that theory on so none of my other ones would work. I suppose I could try my old, old Eukee SN which has long since been cancelled for at least a year now, but I think that may have been a long enough time for it to be able to be reused.

So, have you done anything recently that could fall into those catergories? DLed something using shareware like Kazaa or been to sites that have potential for hacking?

Did you cancel your AOL account in recent times and have other SNs to test that theory on? I was using G TaLanador for about a week and a half before it got blocked.

And have you made anyone who is pretty shallow mad at you? I probably have a couple who aren't fond of me right now, but even then, I don't think they'd pull that kind of trick in order to ToS me and get rid of that single SN. Besides, it's not like I'm using AOL to connect really anymore, and it's quite easy to just up and make new SNs, so it's more trouble to someone to get my accounts blocked than it is for me.

I'm mainly concerned about hack attempts, to be honest, so if it turns out to just have been because of it being attached to a cancelled account, I'll feel much, much better.

Lemme know!

I know I've had a couple SNs disabled that were attatched to cancelled accounts. I'd bet its just that.

I think it's just that it was attached to a cancelled account. I think there's a way that you can pay something like $5 per month to keep an AOL name from a canceled account, but I don't know that for a fact.

Pick another name besides one with a fake L! Too confusing. Gnort Talanador, Gnort D Talanador, Gnorty Wnorty, whatever, hehe.

when I got DSL, I switched AOL to the $5 plan so I could keep my email addresses and AIM screen names. It was a good deal. :)

Especially since I've moved now and I could just switch back to unlimited.[/u]

Yeah, the fake L name was just temporary until I could figure out exactly what was going on with the disabled. I had been bouncing a few SNs in my mind for it lately and will likely come to something final soon enough.

I may end up going to the 5 dollar plan just to keep those secure email addys, plus, I've had the gnrtdrgoon SN for so long that I'm really attached to it. :)

Its the cancelled AOL account thing. Noticed I changed all my SNs when I came back a couple months ago? I had the same issues reported in this thread.

Elijah Solaris is now Elijah Solariss
Joku Shoyia is now Daimyo Joku
Bapheloc is now WarDrac Bapheloc
