6th Annual Painting of the Rainbow Roads

Post by Amaris »

Amaris spent the full moon in May talking with Mist for hours about Pride. Pride was running a little later than the first part of June, but that was a good thing since she was still in recovery. The flu had hit her hard, mixed with a sinus infection. Sometimes she wished the myths were true, that werewolves healed quickly from everything. They did eventually heal, but they could still catch infections and stay sick for a while. Pride was hurtling closer, and she had to force herself to think and plan. Wanting a little help, she turned to Mist with her ideas, plans, and thoughts.
Once June arrived, she started meeting regularly with the Pride council. Things were clicking into place, but since she couldn’t drive yet, she’d have to take driving lessons that summer. Amaris had decided to hitch up Greg and Steven to the carriage. She painted it painstakingly with rainbows. Once she accomplished that, she spent several days and nights working out a spell that would allow her to change the horses’ coats to white.
On Saturday night, June 15th, she performed the spell, changing Greg and Steven to look like the two horses Mist had rented in the past. She carefully laid a rainbow caparison on each of the horses’ backs before hopping up and plaiting their manes, weaving in rainbow ribbons, and adding feathered plumes to the bridles. Then, she went to the back, braiding their tails with the same rainbow ribbons.
Next, she sent messages in all forms to the rainbow road crew; the majority were her family, but all were welcome. She invited the crew to join her with any forms of transportation, paints, and brushes, to come rainbowfy Rhydin!

At 11 p.m. on Saturday night, Amaris arrived outside The Perch with the carriage, after picking up everyone who had no form of transportation but wanted to join in. Behind the rainbowed carriage was a paint sprayer filled with biodegradable glitter and rainbow paint. As people arrived, some had rollers trailing after their vehicles.

When they reached the governor’s building downtown, the crew got out and painted the walls as Amaris and another crew had done years ago. At the end, the crew pressed a handprint onto the wall to sign their work. When everyone was done painting the one wall of the building - with easy-to-remove paint, of course - they were greeted with a breakfast planned by the governor.
As the sun rose, the rainbows glittered and glowed over every road. Every side street and sidewalk was in color.
