Whitedown Charity Speakeasy

Post by Angelic »

Under Dockside, an abandoned gem has been restored to its former glory. The owners of the Whitedown Retreat and Spa invite RhyDin to join them in the Underground Theatre for a Charity Speakeasy benefiting RhyDin Outreach Programs.

After following poorly hidden signs painted on walls throughout the city, guests will enter through the street level lobby of the building to immediately descend the main stairs.

In the opera hall, the floor has been cleared of seating, leaving a large parquet dance floor under the fresco ceiling and restored skylight. The stage at the far end retains the original curtains. Bronzed gilding on the columns, balconies and ceiling reflects the light from chandeliers and sconces.

On the balcony level, the original bar provides ample space for those more interested in drinking than dancing. Seating along the rails allows attendees an overhead view of the dance floor. Live music is provided by various jazz artists until the last dancer leaves the floor.

Take time to explore the old opera hall; secret nooks and quiet spaces have been concealed in unlikely places. Those with a need for more private conversation will find ample accommodations.

As always, food is provided. The night's menu includes signature drinks and small bites to keep dancers energized.

Signature Drinks
Hooch
Giggle Water
Real McCoy
Rotgut
Horse Linament
Coffin Varnish
Tarantula Juice
Stuff
Boiled Owl

Food
Shrimp Cocktail
Crudités
Oysters Rockefeller
Waldorf Salad
Stuffed Mushrooms
Tomato Soup Shooters
Pigs in a Blanket
Vegetable Strudel
Beef Wellington

Desserts
Billionaire Shortbread
Pineapple Upside Down Cake
White Wine Fruit Cocktail

(OOC Note: This will be both a Live and Forum event! Please feel free to post all of your great outfits and accessories here! Live event will take place on Saturday, September 24!)

Months of work, including being drafted into renovations at times and careful curating of accent points, culminated in the moment the doors opened. Anya was already inside the Theatre, waiting with her friends to welcome their guests.

She'd taken inspiration from their feather logo and the burnished gilding of the setting for her ensemble. Heavy ornamentation on her blue and green gown left just enough space for a simple gold charm on her neck and a peacock fascinator in her hair.

She may have looked awkward walking around with a boot on due to her broken and still healing leg. Layla, tasked with taking a night off from supervising the new hires for the funeral parlor, would find herself more often seated throughout the night but would be seen from time to time walking about to take in the sights of the resorted opera house.

Ettyn was here to support Whitedown Retreat, and the efforts of her friends, the co-owners, in organizing the event. She spent much of the night in conversation with the spa's clients, especially those she had brought in through Whitedown's appeal to the photosensitive with its underground entrance and specialized treatments: Underdark denizens and vampires. Her sequined dress stood out in stark contrast to the fashions they preferred, and she was easy to spot among them.

Anya had found her a fascinator which she affixed to her hair, and she also wore the necklace her sister had given her for Christmas:

She found her way to Layla's seat a number of times throughout the night, refreshing her drink and making quiet conversation, and while she knew the mortician could not stand for it, still held her hands and swayed in front of her for one of the brassy, crooning ballads.

Minister of Culture and gubernational candidate Sheridan "Dris" Driscol was in attendance to support this new business venture. The former and hopeful-to-be Governor spent a great deal of time immersed in the crowd, shaking hands with a smile and occasionally signing autographs. On the lapel of his pale gray three piece double breasted suit, he wore one of his own promotional pins and encouraged people to vote when the polls opened the following day. When not busy shmoozing, he could be found on the dance floor with his loving life partner Rhys Germain, who was never far from his side the entire time. Though he was certain to leave space on his dance card for any other friends and family in attendance. Having heard that this was a charity event, he made sure to leave a sizable donation for the cause in his name, as well.

Lucky arrived in a suit that he proudly told people he got on sale, where he got it and how much it was. He neglected to mention that this was a century ago, the sale was over and the business was gone.

The shoes were a particular point of pride for him.

He shook hands and misintroduced himself and told tall tales, but he stayed off of the dance floor, saving his steps for a Victrola and champagne at home.

Minister of Technology and local businessman Rhys Germain arrived at the Underground Theatre on the arm of his life partner, Sheridan “Dris” Driscol. For much of the evening, he could be found shadowing Dris, ensuring fans didn’t get too handsy with him. He wore one of his partner’s campaign pins on the lapel of his three-piece, taupe pinstripe suit.

When they were free of the crowd, Rhys could be found on the dance floor with Dris and other friends and family members or sampling the drinks and small bites. Like his partner, he made sure to leave a generous donation for the evening’s charitable cause.

Usually the lie Tella told with her words and fashions was that she had lived sixty, not a hundred years ago; but a theme party with vintage styles and a chance to look cartoonishly decadent was hard to pass up. She smoked like a chimney, often asking for a light for the hand-rolled numbers at the end of a long filter, and sipped champagne like a bubbly fish. But it was another lie: sips were slow and small, and her smokes smoldered away on their own, wasted on the air while she pontificated with filter in hand.

The real decadence was in the diamond headpiece, luxurious glove, pearl necklaces, and her thrift with casual dishonesty for no reason beyond her own amusement.

She greeted strangers like old friends, squinted one eye at friends she greeted like strangers, and saved a few dances for the one who came to collect them.

Nero was overdue for a public outing and the Speakeasy was more than adequate to show off some new threads. He'd wander around greeting those who would have him. The drink of choice was any and ever whiskey he could get in his glass and the pleasantries would go long into the night. The bags under his eyes were there when he showed up and lasted all evening.

Velen would be up on the stage for much of the evening, playing jazz saxophone both sultry and swinging.

Mac the Knife, the evening's opening act, kills it in a suit that is a dead ringer for the one worn by Tommy Shelby. After performing, they cut paths and rugs, in equal measures of mingling and dancing.

A period piece, a gifted ensemble, a rare piece not of her fabled closet… the Governor made what was certain to be her last public appearance as reigning party planner. She was a ghost most of the night, drifting through the party to mix and mingle before disappearing just as quickly as she had appeared. But not before leaving a hefty donation with the appropriate party.
