Ember Wake


The Ember Wake is a molten terrain littered with obsidian structures jutting out of the plates. The first thing a person will notice is the smothering heat. By standing still, people will be subjected to the sweltering heat discharging from the magma both near and far. A thick sulfuric stench blots every breath and prolonged direct exposure may lead to dangerous conditions. Every direction one may look leads only to the hues of charcoal and red. Overhead the clouds have overtaken any hint of sky spanning over the horizon with no end in sight. The crackle of thunder can be heard although some believe those are the echoed remnants of slabs falling in the unseen distance.

The Fortress


Standing as the only engineered structure in immediate sight- a massive fortress stands forged into the side of a dormant volcano. Matrices of iron and steel remain as the outlets for the red-hot exhaust that plume from the slumbering peak. Ash and soot slumber on the perimeter undisturbed long enough for considerable buildup to have occurred. The only road present leads directly to the fortress where two colossal steel doors stand ajar. Any attempt to move the doors has been futile as they seem by size and mass alone immovable and permanently open. Perpetual smoke rises from the countless exhaust grates and the natural vents promising that some day the volcano will awaken from its long slumber.

Winding Halls


Inside the fortress is a sprawling chasm of caverns and pathways. Torches light the belly of the main hall and the further one wanders from it the less frequent they become. Each pathway leads in a different direction. Some are presumed to lead nowhere at all while others overlook and intersect at various points. Chalky scrawls line the corridors depicting various glyphs and scenes of all variations of fire and stick figures. The deeper one wanders the more sharp their path grows; far enough into The Fortress one would find themselves traversing jagged edges, obstinate silicates and treacherous pits that may hold more secrets or only darkness.

The Forge


Nestled within a corner of The Fortress remains one of the only indicators that someone, or something, had taken refuge there. Scattered tools and instruments remain unencumbered within the confines of The Forge. Even when inactive The Forge and all of its contents radiate a stifling heat often turning misplaced tools red before eventually melting them. Layers of materials remain stacked and piled against the coarse cave walls as well as unidentified machinery and tools. Scorch marks and cinders line The Forge’s various furnaces and anvils, all still steam as though they were fresh from the craft.

Flames of Destiny


Should one venture from the main hub and choose to explore to nigh endless reaches within The Fortress they will eventually stumble across pyres. Blazing, these fires rage from a distance and humble upon discovery as if luring unsuspecting eyes. What one will find gazing into the fire is for their eyes only. Dancing forever the fires are the shades of rainbows glittering sparks of all different hues. To stare into the flames long enough renders one capable of viewing visions from myriads of travelers and stories alike. Some have been chronicled in the Outback’s own tomes and others will tell of tales far away in a time not certain.

The Furnace


A solitary path is carved beyond The Forge and the Winding Halls into the belly of The Fortress. It is here that The Furnace lay ablaze. An unknown polyalloy holds the kindled fires that ignite the heart of The Fortress and maybe the entirety of the Ember Wake. Scalding flames lick and bend and curl around the structure beckoning for those daring -or foolish- enough to embrace it. The Furnace harnesses one’s latent rage and desire to give to them an object of their choosing. Be it large or small, inanimate or living, The Furnace will provide at the cost of one’s own giving. Prolonged use of The Furnace or a request so intense can leave one forever engulfed in their rage; a slave to their own creation.
