Death in the Family

Post by Winter Pearl »

After several years of failing health, my beloved father passed away on 20 April. He never recovered from the loss of my dear mother, his wife of 57 years, who passed in 2017.

My children, grandchildren, several cousins, and many of my father's friends have been a wonderful line of support to me. I managed to hold it together until this Saturday at the memorial for him and my mother when the fire police department where Dad served as volunteer for over fifty years honored him with the last call of service.

To members of the community that knew what was going on and have supported me through this, I thank you. Words can cannot begin to express the appreciation I feel toward you.

Someone said this to me recently and it hits home and has been a type of comfort, so I hope it can help you and others as well.

Grief is an abundance of love with no clear place to go.

Focusing on the love for someone dear who has passed on has become my go to thought to help me when the waves of grief come out of no where and knock me over.

<3 My deepest condolences on your loss. Though I am happy to hear that you have lots of support around you, and know that we’re always here.

Loss is never easy and I am so sorry to hear this.

I know I am not the only one to mean it when I say: My heart is with you. I wish you healing, and hope you can find comfort in your friends and family.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Cathy. I hope you find peace in the joyful memories of your time together, and the knowledge that he is loved and has put so much love into the world, through the family that survives him and beyond. <3

Forgive me for not seeing this post sooner. Ever since you first told me, my heart has been broken for you, Cathy. Losing a parent, no matter the age, is a devastating experience. I think you've been managing admirably. It's okay to break and feel your feelings. Don't forget that. We're here for you as you navigate through your grief, as we have been these past several days. Don't forget that, either. <3

My heart has been aching for you since you first told me about his passing, Cathy. I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine how hard this situation has been, but I’m so glad you’ve had so much love and support while you’re going through this. I’m here for you, whether you need an ear, a hug from afar, or some other bit of help I can provide. Thinking of you. <3

My heart hurts for yours, Cathy. The "Last Call" is a tear jerker for certain. Feel all the feelings and know we rally around you during this difficult time. You're an incredible daughter and an amazing person. <3
And then one day,
One magic day he passed my way.
And while we spoke of many things,
Fools and kings,
This he said to me,
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

Thank you all for the love and support during this difficult time. There's still a road ahead to get the estate fully settled, but it will take time.
