Challenge for New Haven

I've decided to dip my toes into the pool--literally speaking in this case--by issuing a challenge to Runt for the title of Baron of New Haven.

Why? Because that pool is fantastic, but really just because I want to see if I can do it.

Of course, I still have to figure out how to fight a 12-foot-plus jotunn... but I'm sure I can manage something.

Attention SLASS enthusiasts! Tonight we met in the Outback, the only venue large enough to contain the might of defending baron Runt of Clan Simon! It was my honor and privilege to be chosen to officiate this challenge! Let me tell you about it!

Our challenger this evening, a dear friend of mine, and possibly a second or third cousin somewhere along the line on the Bramble, was Eregor Túr Gairdín. He fought under the banner of a stone tower on a field of forest green. His second was Ebon Ilnaren, and his lady of honor was his wife Rhiannon Brock Túr Gairdín.

Runt of Clan Simon had no banner and no second. He told me proudly that he fights his own battles! I was also told that “Seconds are for weak VAN.” But he honored Lily, because she's a badass dancer and likes hot tubbing. Also: MATSLAG!

“More slass de better!” Runt said, and so it was decided that this would be a best of three contest. Much to the enjoyment of the swarm of fans, it took all three matches to conclude this challenge. One fun fact that I must not be remiss in reporting: Eregor fought this contest solely within the confines of a colorful mechanized body suit with lion limbs and head. It was rather impressive.

Slass #1 had Eregor landing first blood, but Runt immediately took the lead away from him in the next two rounds and never gave it back. Our mighty giant built up a mountain of points that went almost entirely unanswered, but for a flopping folly in the sixth that allowed Eregor to sneak in another. By round eight, he the defending baron finished things off at a final score of 5 to 2.

Slass #2 was nearly a complete reversal. It was Runt who landed first blood, and then Eregor who took the lead a couple rounds later. Much as Runt had done in the first match, Eregor continued to build up his lead. In the sixth, at match point, he handed a point back over to the defending baron. It looked as if Runt was going to make a comeback in the next, but by the ninth round Eregor took the win at a final score of 5 to 3.

The very last Slass #3 had Eregor starting and staying strong until the very end. At first, the Baron and challenger avoided each other, but in the second round Eregor landed first blood. He never reall gave up his lead, not even when the score was tied in seven at three apiece. In the very next round, Eregor struck a blow that landed him at match point, and then he finished things off with a deciding victory in round nine with a final score of 5 to 3.

Superfans were heard chanting “ROBO-GOR” at the very end, and then seen swarming out of the Outback with a riotous cry of “POOL PARTY!” Rumor has it that this one will rival all the ones I’ve been throwing over in the Gloaming District, and run all week long. I’m sure you know where you’ll find me after work in the days to come.

Marvelously tried on that defense Runt! Congratulations Eregor, the new Baron of New Haven! Through decision via coin flip, the new Baron has declared that New Haven will remain Renegade to the Overlord.
