Challenge for the 11th (now known as Old Market)

Post by Gloria Blaze »

I, Gloria Blaze, challenge for the Barony of Old Market.

Please do not take offense. I seek to do what I failed to do over 20 years ago, and, as the other Baronial Rings I challenged for are no longer, it left me but one Barony to challenge. Duel well, your record indicates a well-established dueling experience.

Pending official approval of this challenge Michelle Montoya, the daughter of my deceased friend, will be my second.

Gloria Blaze,
House Atrebla

Baron Falessan,

I would be pleased to meet you in the rings on any of Sunday the 7th, the Wednesday the 10th, Thursday the 11th or Friday the 12th at any time after 9 by the Eastern reckoning. I defer the location to one of your choosing and if you have a preference of caller I am pleased to inquire of them first. I await your response to which day is best for you.

To our collective community,

I am pleased to inform everyone that the Baron and I have agreed to meet, Thursday, July 11th at 10:00 pm by the Eastern Clock. This duel will follow after the duel for Dragon's Gate. The esteemed Eden Parker has agreed to officiate. My colours will be the Jade and Black of Atrebla, my second is Michelle Montoya.

As a "long-in-the-tooth" duelist of some elderly years please indulge me in my explanation of the three people of honour.

I wish to acknowledge in honour three duelists of a time long ago.

First, Rix Favre, a friend and a impressive duelist I a had the pleasure of knowing some 20 years ago and longest to hold the ring - about two years.

Second, Gimzak Stonecutter, tied for first in total defenses of this ring and the first to defend three times. It was Gimzak I challenged long ago, over 20 years to be nostalgic.

The third individual that this match is dedicated in honour to is the Baron himself, Arithon. The Baron became a Warlord approximately ten months before I did and also predated both Gimzak and Rix in achieving Warlord rank. Arithon was the 52nd overlord of the sport. For those that are unaware he won the title in a best of three with the concluding duel a shut-out in 7. Old Market, or as I knew it, the 11th, is the third title for the Baron having also held the second ring from the Pre-district era. Furthermore, Arithon never lost a first defense in previous titles.

I consider it a challenge and an honor to be the first to face Arithon as Baron of Old Market. Please join me and Arithon in the second of two challenges that evening. I have heard that there may also be festivities.

Lady Gloria,

I am deeply honored by your kind words of praise, and I hope to hold to the high regard expressed therein.

I have no doubt that this night's match will be a true challenge!

Also, in the interest of strict honesty, I believe I did indeed lose a first challenge, to Var Medici-Giovanni when I held the Tenth, if memory serves. And in addition to the high honors you mentioned, I also had several memorable drubbings, notably at the hands of Aya Hayashibara and the amazing Miyamoto Unagi! We all strive to always better our skill at arms, and may we all learn as much from the defeats as the victories!

Gloria Blaze and Lord Arithon Falessen met this night in the Arena! Arithon opted for a one-shot duel, ad and after five intense rounds, he closed out his defense!

Lord Arithon def. Gloria Blaze, 5 - 1 in 5 rounds.

Well-tried, Gloria! And congratulations to Lord Arithon on your defense of Old Market!
