IFL Callers FAQ

Post by Devils Advocate »

I've gotten a few questions about being an IFL caller this week and realized I've never actually written anything up on the duty. To that end, and incorporating some of those questions in, here is a quick FAQ for calling IFL.

Q: What is different about calling IFL vs calling regular duels?
A: The biggest difference is that we record the full duel on the IFL site. Rather than just reporting the final result in a shift report, there is a tool on the site for recording all the moves that went on in the fight. The tool should be pretty simple to use but it does make for more paperwork. Other than that it's just remembering the slight rule differences: duels go until someone wins; a fighter may only use 2 more mods than are available to their opponent.

Q: Can I call duels for my own team?
A: No, it just looks bad.

Q: What about my alt's team?
A: Still no. The idea is to avoid the appearence of impropriety, just like my asking people like Harris and Claire to handle dispute resolution if my own team is ever involved. I don't actually think anyone is going to cheat, but I also don't want to have to deal with the accusations.

Q: Anyone else I shouldn't call for?
A: By rule? No, but please use common sense and the above stated avoidence policy. If one of the contestants is your spouse, sibling, roommate, cousin, regular RP partner; then I would ask you to avoid the situation. At the very least make sure the other fighter is aware of the relationship and consents to having you call.

Q: I misreported the duel, how can I fix it?
A: Just drop an email or pm to me (at Kalamere) and I'll take care of it. I haven't written any tools for callers to adjust things themselves, but it's a fairly easy process for me to take care of in the database.

That's all I've got for now. If you have questions, please add them to the string and I'll put them into the list as I answer them.
