Hydra Cup Season 1 (2012).

Post by Sylus Kurgen »

The Rundown
This is an unofficial team competition that starts the Sunday July 1st and ends Saturday September 1st. The tournament is open to all duelists who want to enter that can put a team together.

Roster Requirements
Team registration begins June 18th and will run until midnight on June 24th. Each team has a 5 duelist minimum and an 8 duelist maximum. Once teams have registered they have 3 chances to alter or change their rosters before the start of the tournament. Teams who register with less than the 8 maximum may add any duelists they can find as long as it is BEFORE the July 1st start date but once they reach the 8 duelist cap will start using their 3 chances.

Points Earned Incentive

Each duelist earns points for their team every week based on wins and losses earned on Regular Dueling Nights in all 3 sports. Competitors, please let the callers know that you're taking part in the Hydra Cup tournament to make sure you get the points for your efforts.

Duels versus Non-Hydra Duelists
1 win = 5 point to the team's total. 1 loss = 5 point deducted from the team total.

Duels versus Hydra Duelists
1 Win = 10 points to the team's total. 1 Loss = 10 points deducted from the team total.

50 Points will be awarded to the team who wins any Sanctioned Tournament. (ToR, PC, WLT, AMT, DQ). Sanctioned tournaments are any tournament hosted by the DoS, DoM, DoF staff. Each team can earn additional points for the number of members who enter a Sanctioned tournament.

Tournament Points
2 Points awarded for each team member who enters a Sanctioned Tournament.
2 Points awarded to each team member who advances to any round beyond the first.
Due to the Winner Payout, all duels won or lost within a tournament do not garner points earned as on Regular Dueling Nights. Winner gets 50pts +2 for entering+2 for Advancing. In a 5 round tournament this equals 62 points.

50 Points will be awarded to the team who wins the Ring of Klytus as obtaining this item is based on performance throughout the cycle not just one night of superb dueling.

Challenge Points

Teams may not challenge their own members to earn points. Duelists are welcome to challenge their team mates but be advised such occurrences WILL NOT COUNT TOWARDS TEAM POINT TOTAL.

Winner of the WLT who challenges for OL will receive 15 points for the overall challenge + 1 point for each round, up to 10, in the FINAL duel should he or she win. If the Current OL defends and is a Hydra Cup particpant, the OL instead earns these points as a Defense Point Bonus. This same bonus applies to the winner of the AMT.

Non-Tourney/ Baronial/ Keeper/ Opal Challenge Points
Should any Hydra Cup duelist challenge for a Barony, Keepership, Opal, or Overlord their Point Potential is 10 points for the overall challenge (15points for OL) + 1 point for each round up to 10 the FINAL duel last. Should the Defending Titleholder be a Hydra Cup participant they will earn these points instead of the challenger just as the Overlord and Archmage.

There are not any extra points for becoming the Diamond as winning the tournament wins the title.

Monopoly Bonus

If any team manages to gain control of all challengeable titles within a sport the team earns a bonus point incentive equal to the total number of rounds in the FINAL Duel for each title. To earn this incentive all team members must WIN their title DURING the Hydra tournament. Holding the title prior to registration negates eligibility for this bonus.

Sanctioned Event Bonuses
Throughout the Hydra Cup tournament, if any sport hosts a Sanctioned event where incentives are offered (Such as Double Wins) the Tournament will Match the WoL incentive in points. Win Points will match, point deductions for losses remain the same.

Team Points Earned will be updated each week with the official standings of each sport and a random number of weeks will be chosen to offer double points for all points earned within that time frame.

At the end of the competition the Team with the most points will be named Hydra Cup Champion, given a trophy to keep until the next year where they compete to keep the Golden Hydra in their possession.

Team points and Personal Points will be recorded separately. When the Hydra Cup winner is announced the Hydra Cup MVP will be named to the duelist who earned the most points throughout the competition

Additional Prizes
Golden Hydra Champion receives 10,000 nobles

2nd Place = 5,000 nobles

3rd = 2,500

It's after Midnight. This means The Hydra Cup has officially started!

Competitors, let the callers know you're in the Hydra Cup so that your points are tracked appropriately.

Tuesday July 3rd is Double Win night on the Twilight Isle. As with the Sanctioned Event Bonus, Points that night will be doubled! 1 Win against a non-Hydra opponent will be worth 10 points and a fellow competitor worth 20! Deductions remain the same. If you want to get a leg up on each other, the Twilight Isle will be the place to be.

Check the All Points Bulletin at the end of each week to see how your team is doing in comparison to the others.

I want to remind all competitors....

IF YOU DO NOT ANNOUNCE THAT YOUR DUEL IS TO COUNT TOWARDS HYDRA, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE RIGHT POINTS. NO DECLARATION, NO POINTS.

(( OOC: I've noticed some duels in the caller report log are not being marked as Hydra, but the duelists in the room are stating the match is to count towards the tournament. If you think your duel should have counted, let me know and I will investigate. Most often I review the log reports and transcribe them onto the Duel Log with the Bulletin.))

Updated All Points Bulletin

It seems to me that team Beat Down has too many points. Anyone else agree? Perhaps its time for the other teams to do something about that.

So, starting tonight and for the next two tournament weeks July 23rd through August 5th, any WINS against Beat Down will be worth Triple Points. Losses will remain the same. I'll take it a step further, should anyone shut out a member of Beat Down, that individual will get 50 Personal Points.

Also, don't forget to stop by the RDI tonight and get some cake on the way to the Annex for Fight Night and the Outback for Diamond Quest 70.

You know, I think I've picked on Beat Down enough. Bounty Rescinded. I had considered giving Beat Down a chance to retaliate on teams that took advantage of the bounty, but what point is there when so few did?

Hydra has long since come and gone and from my perspective, it was a rather unique season. Team Beat Down displayed that an actively competitive team can be an intimidating force and Xanth showed us that not all duelists are equal. Above both we saw that despite bounties, head hunting, and random bonuses, competitors still had fun.

I can confidently say that the largest surprise of the season came from Xanth Van Bokkelen who all but carried his team into second place and kept Candy Hart from MVP status until the very last week of the season.

End of Season Stats:
Beat Down:
Points Attempted: 1039
Points Deducted: 260
Season Total: 779
Team MVP: Candy Hart, 458 Personal Points

Wrecking Crew:
Points Attempted: 351
Points Deducted: 210
Season Total: 141
Team MVP: Myria Graziano, 149 Personal Points

Forces of Nature:
Points Attempted: 530.5
Points Deducted: 435
Season Total: 95.5
Team MVP: Rachael Douglas, 156 Personal Points

CrushBob:
Points Attempted: 505
Points Deducted: 370
Season Total: 135
Team MVP: Mathew Simon, 226 Personal Points

GreatofStrength:
Points Attempted: 422
Points Deducted: 140
Season Total: 282
Team MVP: Xanth Van Bokkelen, 409 Personal Points.

Season MVP came as the most difficult title to guage as we have Candy Hard on one side who dominated the Personal Points bracket among full team rosters and on the other side stands Xanth as the one-lich army who earned second place in the tournament with little help from his roster team-mates.

Most Valuable Player goes to Candy Hart for 455 Personal Points earned. Xanth earns the title of Hydra Powerhouse for both securing 2nd place for his team and earning 409 Personal Points.

Duelists who Broke 300 Points:
Candy Hart 328

Duelists who Broke 200 Points:
Xanth VanBokkelen 279

Duelists who Broke 100 Points:
King, 150
Matt Simon, 131
Myria Graziano, 114

Duelists who Broke 50 Points:
Jacen, 94.5
Mur, 92
Seirichi, 87
Degnor, 78
Tass, 72
Ticallion, 61
Jake, 58
Rachael, 51

Point Pits:
G, -78
Kalinda, -45
Mairiad, -35
Fionna, -26
Eregor, -20.5
Lizzie, -20
Jay, -15
Rhiannon, -11
Niki Blade, -10
Koy, -5
Jedi, -1
